AAA Northeast said Monday that even though self-serve, regular is up to an average of $2.28 per gallon, it remains 4 cents per gallon lower than the national average.
Statewide, the average price is $2.02, which is an increase of 3.2 cents, the survey states. The national average is up a larger 18 cents above previous year.
Gas prices shot up 12 cents over the week in Southwest Florida and will likely go higher in the coming days, according to AAA.
On Monday, AAA released a new study on gas prices across the Sunshine State. Nationally, the highest average was $2.42 per gallon back in April while the lowest was $2.23 per gallon at the start of this month.
Before regular in the Bay State rose 1 cent two weeks ago - the first increase since the end of May, costs had dropped 14 cents because of an oil and gas glut.
The average price in OH was $2.30 early Monday, making it the 24th most-expensive state in the country for gas.

"The rise in oil has come due to unrest and concern over the political outlook in Venezuela, a major supplier of crude oil to the US, as well as due to Saudi Arabia's export cut to six million barrels per day".
In addition, USA oil inventories have declined by more than 50 million barrels since March.
