Facebook has shut down research into one of its artificial intelligence systems after its chatbots created their own language, started communicating with one another using it and then disregarded the codes they were given by researchers.
There are probably good reasons not to let intelligent machines develop their own language which humans would not be able to meaningfully understand - but again, this is a relatively mundane phenomena which arises when you take two machine learning devices and let them learn off each other. When Facebook noticed that its AI bots started speaking in different languages, this is exactly the kind of scenario that Musk was anxious about. The fact that it might happen was explained in a blog entry on the Facebook Code pages. The shorthand was a more efficient way of trading with each other. Facebook says most people didn't even realize they were speaking to a bot, and the best bot negotiator was as good or better than a human.
According to a report in Tech Times on Sunday, "The AI did not start shutting down computers worldwide or something of the sort, but it stopped using English and started using a language that it created". Supposedly, the chat bots that Facebook's engineers were pitting against each other to simulate hard negotiation tactics started using a form of English that looked like gibberish.
Amid the battle of words between billionaires Mark Zuckerberg and Elon Musk over the future of artificial intelligence last week, a story that suggested that Facebook had to shut down an AI program went viral.
Sentences like "Balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to" were unintelligible to him and his peers, but to the conversing AIs they were a shortcut to speedier understanding in the negotiation process.
Hizbul terrorists loot bank in Kashmir

Bot 2: "Balls have zero to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to me to". "They would, for instance, pretend to be very interested in one specific item so that they could later pretend they were making a big sacrifice in giving it up", said a paper published by the Facebook Artificial Intelligence Research Division.
The robots had been instructed to figure out negotiations with each other and improve their bargaining over time.
'Agents will drift off understandable language and invent codewords for themselves.
The incident puts into perspective Elon Musk's earlier warning about AI. As we begin to make progress towards human-level AI, several developments and breakthroughs in the field of AI have begun to make waves.
