Russian officers today shot dead three gang suspects on trial over 17 drive-by killings after they seized their guards' guns and tried to flee a Moscow region court, officials said. "In a shootout, one of the National Guard officers was wounded in the shoulder, three of the defendants were killed and the other two were seriously wounded and taken to hospital", she said.
The suspects were blamed for being a piece of a gathering known as GTA Gang, named after the vicious diversion arrangement Grand Theft Auto.
Five defendants accused of murdering more than a dozen motorists are reported by Russian media to have attacked their guards, grabbing firearms and attempting to take hostages.
Around 20 shots were fired in total, according to witnesses. The defendants managed to break free and take possession of the guard officers' weapons.
Allegedly, the gang members were behaving without raising anyone's suspicions.

"There was a shootout in the Moscow Regional Court, employees were wounded, I saw a wounded woman - a bailiff", Rubasskaya said. "Later somebody said that an armed guard had been injured", she said.
The G.T.A. gang - which largely consists of men from the former Soviet republics in Central Asia - was behind a series of murders in the Moscow area in 2014.
The five suspects were among nine who went on trial past year over a series of high-profile drive-by shootings around Moscow's ring road.
Activities at the building have reportedly resumed after a brief evacuation following the incident.
Prosecutors said the gang members were placing spikes on roads, forcing the motorists out of their vehicles and shooting them dead.
