The transcripts of Trump's calls with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto and Australian Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull are chock-full of damaging material, but one exchange with Turnbull resonates strongly this week.
The leaders had some common ground, both slamming the open door policy in Germany on refugees.
When Turnbull turns the conversation to "the issue of the resettlement agreement that we had with the Obama administration with respect to some people on Nauru and Manus Island", the bonhomie breaks down.
Trump then proceeded to say that he hates "taking these people", in reference to the refugees.
When Mr Turnbull asked Mr Trump if he would like to discuss Syria or North Korea, the President responded: "This is crazy".
Mr Turnbull explained Australia's policy was to stop people smugglers and said even a Nobel Prize victor would not be allowed into the country if they arrived by boat.
The president went on to label the US refugee deal as "stupid" and claimed it would make him "look terrible" in his first week in the White House. If you see reports of them, I'm not going to add to them, " he said at the time, as quoted by Reuters.
I have had it, ' the president said.
Jordanian parliament annuls controversial rape law
Morocco, Tunisia and Egypt have repealed similar laws and changes to the penal code are pending in both Lebanon and Bahrain. Jordan's cabinet supported scrapping the portion of Article 308 in April.
"That is enough, Malcolm".
However, the refugees from the islands were largely from Afghanistan, Iran, and Iraq, and Turnbull reassured Trump during the conversation that because he would still have the authority to vet the refugees, he wouldn't be violating his own executive order. "So we said if you try to come to Australia by boat, even if we think you are the best person in the world, even if you are a Noble [sic] Prize winning genius, we will not let you in".
The President wrapped up the hour long call after just 24 minutes, even saying his chat with Russian President Vladimir Putin was more pleasant than speaking with the PM.
Trump added that Australia was trying to send the "next Boston bombers" into the United States, according to reports at the time. Putin was a pleasant call. It is an embarrassment to me, but at least I got you off the hook. You can decide to take them or to not take them after vetting.
Turnbull replied: "That is the point I have been trying to make". "It is very important to us". "So you put me back on the hook".
"You can not say that to the press", Trump told him, according to a transcript of a call between the two leaders obtained by the paper.
Turnbull also said: "There is nothing more important in business or politics than a deal is a deal", "You can certainly say that it was not a deal that you would have done, but you are going to stick with it". "I will be there again and again". In it, the president remarks that Nieto speaks "beautifully", adding that he does not think he "can speak that beautifully".
