Senior members of Donald Trump's administration and Israeli officials renewed talks over the possibility of moving the US embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, a promise made by the US President during his election campaign, the media reported.
UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on his first visit to the Palestinian territories since taking office in January, embraced a two-state solution on Tuesday.
Guterres also said: "To express that the right of existence of the state of Israel doesn't exist or the wish to destroy the state of Israel is an unacceptable form of modern anti-Semitism".
Peace efforts have been at a standstill since April 2014 and Israeli settlement building in the occupied West Bank has continued. "The victory over ISIS is welcome", Mr. Netanyahu told Mr. Putin, referring to the Islamic State, which has been battling Mr. Assad's forces.
He said that Israel's settlement activity represented a major obstacle to the implementation of the two-state solution although there are other obstacles.
Such statements deeply concern Palestinian leader.
They also discussed a United Nations construction project in Jerusalem's Armon Hanatziv neighborhood, which Israeli officials say is being carried out illegally and without a permit.
"There is no question that we've had a troubled relationship with the UN", Netanyahu said.
He said on Tuesday that "it is important to create conditions for leaders of all sides to appeal for calm, to avoid forms of incitement, for violence to settle down".
Germany's Merkel rules out coalition with far left, far right
Angela Merkel has said harsher measures should be taken against asylum seekers if they take a holiday in their country of origin. The volume and intensity of the protests have been especially strong in her home region in formerly communist eastern Germany.
Guterres isn't expected to negotiate with any Hamas representatives, but Israeli sources told Haaretz he can influence the armed Palestinian group indirectly via Qatar and Egypt.
Guterres's visit follows a United States delegation's talks with both Netanyahu and Abbas last week.
The US team, led by President Donald Trump's son-in-law and senior adviser, Jared Kushner, included Trump's global negotiations representative Jason Greenblatt, Deputy National Security Adviser Dina Powell and US Ambassador to Israel David Friedman. In particular, they have been pressing Washington to call for a freeze on settlement construction and to endorse the two-state solution.
Kushner and his team informed the Palestinian officials that they would answer the Palestinian team within the next few weeks, Hamdallah said.
"This is an Israeli message to the US administration", he said.
The two were surrounded by dozens of Israeli police and special forces, and carried out talmudic rituals in the yards of the mosque, despite the latest Aqsa protests against settler visits to Al-Aqsa mosque.
"We call upon the U.S. administration to deal with these provocations", added Mr Abu Rdeneh.
Netanyahu on Monday night, after meeting Guterres earlier in the day, again spoke of not removing settlements. "Settlements will not be uprooted".
