The fuel tanks were in the line of sight during Mr Paddock's attack on concert-goers, but it is not known if he was specifically targeting the containers.
Paddock killed 58 people and injured at least 527 others before turning a gun on himself after he opened fire at a country music concert on the Las Vegas Strip on Sunday evening, in what has become the deadliest mass shooting in recent USA history.

Officials believe he acted alone, though no motive was revealed as of Wednesday.

Images posted by United States media showed automatic weapons attached to tripods lying on the ground of the hotel room, with scores of bullet casings littering the floor around them.
Danley remains a "person of interest" in the shooting investigation of the slaughter of 59 people Sunday night in Las Vegas.
"I never slept", she said.
Overall, the Vegas shooting is clearly a horrific tragedy that has now become the deadliest shooting in US history - and, very sadly, final injury and death toll numbers are still unknown.
