A security guard allegedly set fire to a day care center in eastern Brazil, killing four children, a teacher and himself, military police said Thursday.
Authorities have identified the security guard as 50-year-old Damiao Soares dos Santos.
It is known that DOS Santos set fire to the building in which there were about 80 people.
The attack on the day care facility Gente Inocente (literally "Innocent People", in English) shocked the town of 72,000 in the countryside of Minas Gerais. "But those who have been rescued, the children and the adults as well, we are very hopeful that all will survive", Pimentel told reporters at the scene.
Janauba Mayor Carlos Isaildon Mendes has declared a seven-day mourning period.
"Staff at the nursery said he poured the liquid over the children and set fire (to himself and to them)".

Local police chief Bruno Fernandes Barbosa told the G1 news portal that the teacher, 43-year-old Helley Abreu Batista, grappled with the guard "in an attempt to save the children". The motive of the attack was unclear.
