The women's stories of their alleged encounters with Toback follow a common outline: Toback would approach a young woman, introduce himself as a film director, and say she was flawless for the project he was working on.
The women told the newspaper for an article published Sunday that Toback spoke to them in sexually explicit language, attempted to trade sexual favors for career opportunities, rubbed his genitals on them or masturbated in front of them without their encouragement or consent. But the encounters would quickly turn sexual as the director asks the women inappropriate questions such as, "How often do you masturbate?" the report stated.
The newspapersays 31 of the 38 women who made accusations against Toback agreed to do so on the record.
Toback, 72, has denied the allegations, saying he never met any of the women who have accused him, or if he did, it "was for five minutes and (I) have no recollection", according to the Times. He also said it was "biologically impossible" for him to engage in the described behavior, due to medication he was taking.

A Who's Who of actresses and models have come forward to accuse Weinstein of rape, sexual assault and harassment, and of using his intimidating power in Hollywood to keep his behaviour hushed up.
Many abusers have remained unnamed, but one has now been identified in a report by The Los Angeles Times. "And I deserved not to tell anyone", actress Adrienne LaValley told The LA Times. Starr Rinaldi claimed to the publication that he always wanted her to go to his apartment as a testament to how "serious" she is about her art form. Louise Post, the guitarist and vocalist for indie rock band Veruca Salt, said she met Toback in 1987 and went to his apartment. "He always wanted me to read for him in a hotel or come back to his apartment, like, 'How serious are you about your craft?' And the frightful thing is, whichever road you choose, whether you sleep with him or walk away, you're still broken".
"It's important to say, I don't have any firsthand information about any of this", wrote "Guardians of the Galaxy" director James Gunn in a post on Facebook. In 1989, Spy magazine wrote an account of several women who claimed they had experienced unwanted sexual encounters with him. "I am really uncomfortable", she replied.
These new revelations follow in the wake of the case of Harvey Weinstein, who is rocking Hollywood and pushes many actresses to openly condemn the practice hitherto passed over in silence in the american industry of cinema.
