The actors were appearing on the morning talk show to promote their latest film, Suburbicon which arrives in theaters on October 27.
Both Clooney and Damon said that while they were aware Weinstein frequently hit on actresses, they didn't know he was a harasser or abuser. I was there at the height of his power, and what you knew back then, you had to spend about five minutes [with him] to know he was a bully and intimidating...
What Damon didn't know, which he said in earlier rebukes of the producer, was the "level of criminal sexual predation".
George Clooney, who has also worked with Weinstein, joined Damon in the GMA interview and said he didn't believe Weinstein when he used to boast about his affairs with actresses.
"I didn't think they were having affairs with Harvey, and clearly they didn't".
"And we have to take it on full force because the kind of assault that we're talking about now is - it's so infuriating that this was allowed to go on as long as it did".
Dickinson Demands People Seeking Harvey Relief Promise Not To Boycott Israel
The law , known as the Anti-BDS (Boycott, Divestments, and Sanctions) bill, got signed by Republican Governor Greg Abbott in May. Rights groups, including the ACLU, similarly slammed the city of Dickinson's decision as a violation of free speech.
George Clooney then chimed in and shared similar thoughts, saying that he knew that Harvey Weinstein was a womanizer but not that he was a predator. "I talked with my wife [Amal] about this". The Weinstein sexual-assault scandal, along with similar emerging allegations against James Toback, allegations of pederastic molestation involving Hollywood agent Tyler Grasham, and who knows what else, makes Hollywood's morbid fascination with the suburbs look like a bad case of projection. I knew he was an asshole-he was proud of that.
"Social media has been great in the sense that these really fearless women stepped up first and took that chance and made their voices heard", said Damon.
The LA Times says 38 women have come forward with horrific stories about writer-director James Toback.
Matt Damon and Robin Williams starred in Good Will Hunting.
Damon revealed that he had heard of Gwyneth Paltrow's encounter with Weinstein from friend Ben Affleck, though he had been under the impression that Paltrow had come to "an agreement or understanding" following the incident. (Paltrow and Affleck dated in the late Nineties, following her broken engagement with Pitt.) "But I was working with Gwyneth, with Harvey, on [The Talented Mr. Ripley]". "Could you survive a meeting with Harvey?".
The fallout of Harvey Weinstein continues to make headlines as more A-listers speak about the character of Weinstein and how the industry has maintained to keep this silenced over the years. I didn't work with him again after that.
