In the first question and answer round of the competition, Nel-Peters was asked what is the biggest issue women face around the world?
This year, Cambodia, Laos and Nepaul competed at the Miss Universe finals for the first time ever.
Nel-Peters accepts her crown from her doppelganger, basically - Iris Mittenaere, Miss Universe 2016 (and previously Miss France). And Miss Universe is a woman that has overcome many fears and by that she is able to help other women to overconme their fears.
The 22-year-old from the Western Cape is only the second South African to win the title, following Margaret Gardiner's win in 1978.
The 66th Miss Universe pageant will air live on Sunday from The Axis at Planet Hollywood in Las Vegas.
England probe Bairstow-Bancroft clash
