Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas welcomed worldwide condemnation of US President Donald Trump's decision to recognize Jerusalem as Israel's capital Friday, According to the Palestinian Authority's Wafa news outlet.
Abbas said that the U.S. had crossed a "red line" over the decision by President Donald Trump on Wednesday to move the usa embassy to Jerusalem from Tel Aviv, an aide said on Saturday.
A White House official responded by saying Pence "still intends to meet Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas along with other leaders and thinks any decision to pull out of the meeting would be counterproductive". It was not clear what Rajoub's remarks meant for the West Bank portion of Pence's trip.
"We express our appreciation to all United Nations Security Council members who have taken a position of courage and principle and have rejected and condemned the irresponsible decision of the US Administration to unilaterally and illegally recognize Jerusalem as the capital of Israel and move its embassy there".
Israel has long claimed all of Jerusalem as its indivisible capital, while the Palestinians see the annexed eastern sector of the city as the capital of their future state. The Israeli military said one protester was arrested.
