While Apple's approach here makes sense, the company should have been more forthright about it from the get-go; especially since iPhone users, for years on end, were told that they were insane for even suggesting that Apple would purposefully slow down older devices.
Audio will be available later today. John Poole, founder of the organization, posted on a blog that processors in iPhones slow down and decrease in performance as batteries age and lose capacity.
For the iPhone 7, scores were pretty much identical across iOS 10.2.0, iOS 10.2.1, and iOS 11.1.2. After running a series of tests on the 6S and 7, Geekbench concluded that the problem is widespread and unlikely to be the product of natural wear and tear on an aging battery.
Per Apple, inside the first year, a new battery is under warranty.
Last year, Apple introduced a feature to "smooth out" spikes in demand for power to prevent iPhone 6 models from shutting down due to the cold or weak batteries, according to the California-based company.
"Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices", Apple said in a statement.

The drop in performance has been traced back to a software patch issued to correct the random shutdown issues that affected iPhone 6 and 6S devices earlier this year, the Daily Mail says.
Apple has now confirmed that it made changes to iOS to manage ageing lithium-ion batteries in some devices, since the batteries' performance diminishes over time. (Its latest major update, iOS 11.2, does the same slowdown to an iPhone 7 with a dud battery.) But the larger problem is it leaves the impression that customers should buy a new phone when all they really need is a new battery. Some agreed that the company was doing the right thing, but a number of critics argued that Apple could have taken other measures, from modifying its operating system to better manage peak demands to building iPhones with bigger batteries to slow down battery depletion.
Perhaps more than any other device, iPhone batteries are especially tricky to replace.
Some Reddit users report that replacing their batteries has returned performance and CPU clock speeds back to normal. The suit, originally spotted via TMZ, also notes that Apple's behavior lowers the resale value of existing iPhones and underhandedly coerces iPhone owners to upgrade to newer models.
Apple insists the reason is not because they want you to purchase a newer model.
