Minimum wage earners in NY and New Jersey are in for a raise with the new year.
Under a state constitutional amendment passed by voters in 2004, the Florida Department of Economic Opportunity adjusts the wage each year based on changes in a federal consumer price index.
Beginning Sunday, the state's minimum wage will increase to $13 an hour for employees at New York City businesses with at least 11 employees and $12 an hour for workers at New York City companies with no more than 10 employees.
The hikes are part of a plan to gradually increase the minimum wage for fast-food workers to $15 an hour.

Officials said on Friday the fire started when a three-year-old boy was playing with a stove inside of a first-floor apartment. Eight-month-old Amora Serenity Vidal and her grandmother, Maria Batiz, 56, have also been identified as victims in the fire.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo included the wage increase in the 2016 Built To Lead Agenda. Under the new law, no locality could have a wage floor higher than the one mandated by the state.
In 2017, Ireland had the second highest rate of minimum wage of countries who have a minimum wage structure in the European Union, according to a report published by Eurostat earlier this month. The disparity in pay is so great that those at the bottom of the wage ladder could be earning an additional £5.24 per hour if their pay had risen at the same rate over the last 20 years as the pay of FTSE 100 chief executives.
