O'Riordan leaves behind a family with ex-husband Don Burton and thousands of saddened fans.
The Cranberries canceled a string of shows previous year, revealing on social media that O'Riordan was having a tough recovery from an ongoing back problem. She divorced Burton, with whom she had three children, in 2014 and The Cranberries, who had reformed in 2009, released a new album past year.
It found its way into my hands in early 1990 or thereabouts and what seemed a rather inauspicious band name (changed from the torturous pun The Cranberry Saw Us) did not hint at the treasures within. The 46-year-old died Monday in London.
Though they eventually separated, O'Riordan kept her connections to Canada.
She frequently talked about how she enjoyed the province.
As news broke, the music community began paying their respects to O'Riordan on Twitter. Jim Corr of Irish pop group the Corrs passed his "deepest sympathies" to O'Riordan's family. The ex-couple sold their stud farm six years after purchasing it, sealing the deal in 2004. O'Riordan later returned to Ireland when her marriage fell apart.

"To all those who follow and support Irish music, Irish musicians and the performing arts her death will be a big loss", the President said.
"She derived great happiness from her kids who she absolutely doted on, and wanted to make sure had as normal a childhood as possible growing up".
In her final tweets, O'Riordan says she's on her way to Toronto to visit her "babies", and then was on her way back to Ireland.
"She had to be totally inspired and in the moment".
"She knew when she was feeling right and when she was comfortable".
