The drone can be so small and compact as it features folding arms and propellers that sit flush against its aerodynamic frame, meaning it can be quite easily be slotted into a bag or pocket.
As you might expect given its price point, the Air is meant to function as a middle ground between the two previously-mentioned drones, offering enough improvements over the Spark to be worth the upgrade without rendering the Pro obsolete.
The new drone is a combination of the foldable Mavic Pro and the portable Spark, and makes improvements to the camera, sensor and shooting capabilities of each.
Mounted on the front could be a 32-megapixel camera with three-way gimbal, capable of recording in 4K, putting it on par with the Mavic Pro, but an upgrade from the 1080p video capture on the Spark. DJI also says that the Mavic Air's 41% lighter than the Mavic Pro yet is able to resist winds of up to 22 miles per hour (about 35.4km/h).
The drone includes 8GB of on-board storage but you can also add memory through the microSD card slot. DJI says that the Mavic Air is 41 percent lighter and half the size of the Mavic Pro. Paying this price gets you the drone, battery, a charger, new remote controller, a small carrying case, two pairs of propeller guards and four pairs of propellers. Few more hours to go we will start getting more hands on reviews and photos.
Statue of Liberty reopens with state aid during gov't shutdown
As a result of the budget impasse, many government services including the Statue of Liberty have been closed since Saturday. He said the state will spend about $65,000 a day to keep them open, with the revenue gained more than offsetting the costs.
DJI's first real effort to sell drones to the masses wasn't as rousing a success as you'd expect from the company, which has dominated the marketplace in terms of quality and sales since consumer drones have become a thing. This is supposed to result in better obstacle avoidance, an area where the Mavic Pro has been criticized by many users. "Today, with the introduction of Mavic Air, we have pushed these attributes to the next level to create our best consumer drone yet".
The Air features Active Track, a feature sorely lacking from the Karma, which lets the drone follow its subjects as they move, making it possible to shoot action videos without the aid of an additional crew.
The Mavic Air has a battery life of 21 minutes.
It is perhaps easier to describe the new Mavic Air compared to the previous drones, instead of just listing specs. Stills can be captured in up to 12-megapixel, all with a wide-angle 24mm f2.8 lens.
The Mavic Air is now available to pre-order from the DJI online store, the DJI Flagship Stores and from authorized dealers. The DJI Mavic Air is priced higher than the Spark at $699. On top of the Quickshot video introduced with the Spark, DJI is introducing two new modes: Asteroid and Boomerang. You also get access to a host of smart capture features including new ones like Asteroid and Boomerang. The drone is Type-C based for data transfer.
Mavic Air will be available in three colors: Onyx Black, Arctic White and Flame Red.
