The video, which shows a young girl performing oral sex on an adult male, has been shared internationally with complaints coming from from as far away as France.
The Chicago Police Department, along with police departments across the country, are warning people not to share it. Sharing the video is illegal.
If you receive the message containing the video, law enforcement says to report it to the social media platform and local authorities.
Police in Alabama say an investigation is underway. We're telling everyone to first notify Facebook, and then delete the files.
United States arms restrictions on South Sudan
The United States is South Sudan's biggest aid provider, and was a major backer of its 2011 independence from Sudan. South Sudan's leaders aren't just failing their people, "they are betraying them", Ms Haley said.
"In addition to investigating the circumstances of the assault, investigators are working to determine how and by whom the video was shared", Garrett said.
Any individual who gets the video is encouraged to not impart the video to anybody, to advise Facebook promptly, and from that point forward, erasing the document from your Facebook account. The video has been reported in other states as well. "This could be considered distribution of child pornography", says Officer Paul Hill of the Marietta Police Department in Georgia.
Alabama law enforcement agencies are also conducting an ongoing criminal investigation.
Some people are sharing the video randomly; others are hoping to bring others into helping them find the man in the video and help save the child.
