A cryptic tweet by Blizzard ignited speculation that "Diablo III" will soon arrive to the Nintendo Switch. Blizzard reached out to Polygon via phone call denying the recent buzz, but leaving it suspiciously open ended with an "we have nothing to announce".
Releasing old games on a new platform is always a bit of a risk as the developer really needs to know it will sell well enough to make the work of porting the game worthwhile. Additionally, there was a gif of a nightlight of Diablo - the Lord of Terror - being turned off and on.

It's a simple tease meant to fan the fires, but it's pretty clear what Blizzard is poking at here. Blizzard has managed to dial-in the controls for Diablo 3 on consoles for the Xbox One, PS4, Xbox 360, and PS3 versions of the game, and the additional bonus of being able to take it with you does sound enticing. As a big fan of Diablo III, the idea of a portable Diablo game excites me to no end.
That's certainly disappointing, because if there is a franchise that is a ideal fit for the Switch, it's Diablo. Despite being released close to six years ago, the game is still very much an active project for Blizzard. On one hand, Blizzard giving assurance that it's not clever enough to tease a Switch announcement in such a manner suggests that this was in fact just a fun engagement piece, and not a cryptic announcement.
