Ronaldo equals another Champions League record

At the stage of his career when many players slow down and drop deep as their powers diminish, Cristiano Ronaldo has imagined and filled a new role unlike any other in history: that of a big-game decider, a bully on the toughest tracks.

Watch him go airborne (below) as he flips the ball over his head backward and into the net. To turn around this coliseum to his side - wow.

The fanfare around Ronaldo's goal is also in part due to his status as a showman.

A four-time Champions League victor, Ronaldo is the leading scorer in Europe's top competition for the seventh season in a row, on 14 goals in nine appearances this campaign, three from equalling his record of 17 strikes in the 2013-14 season.

Earlier this season, when he had misplaced his La Liga shooting boots and the column inches discusse his deterioration, the Champions League provided him with a return to normal procedure.

Real Madrid's hopes of breaking history once again this season will be largely on the shoulders of 'CR7, ' and in the form that he is now in, nobody will be able to stop him.

"It was one of the most poignant moments of the night", said Ronaldo. We played nice - I helped the team, I scored two goals.

"I've been looking to do it for a while, but it depends on the circumstances of the game". It came at a time when Juventus were dominating the ball in the second half and had put the Real defence under a lot of pressure. I tried and I scored.

"It was an incredible moment", Ronaldo said.

'To receive an ovation from a stadium with so much history, is a unique experience. "I was in a great position to see it all, the movement of the chilena".

In March, he told the Daily Mail, "I always believe and say that I am the best, whatever they say, and then I show it in the field". All three goals could've been avoided, really, but in these games if you don't have a little bit of luck and the opposition do, it becomes hard. But if you don't practise that and you try it in a game you can break your back. He has all this in his mind and computes it in a millisecond.

"With the Scudetto and the Coppa Italia it would be a very positive year, and we know that here we need to try and win the Champions League, which is definitely more hard but now and in the future it's something we want to do". He also wants to win that Ballon d'Or. "But he is so far ahead".

After the game, the five-time Ballon d'Or victor conceded: "It was probably the best goal of my career".

"I remember the Porto one [for Manchester United in 2009]".

The Tonight Show is about to get a heaping dose of "Bartier Cardi". "Everybody that I know got kids". The " Bartier Cardi " rapper is set to join Jimmy Fallon as The Tonight Show's first-ever co-host.

Marcelo put the icing on the cake in the 72 minute, linking up with Ronaldo with a handsome one-two before lifting the ball over a scrambling Buffon, putting the tie very almost beyond doubt. "This means they can be compared to Maradona and Pele for the way they ultimately are able to decide matches and trophies won by their teams".

Cristiano has bagged a historic goal, straight from PlayStation. It's a Playstation goal.

The extraordinary athleticism required for Ronaldo's latest golazo is another reason so many found joy in this particular goal. If you give him any space, he'll punish you.

"However, I am disappointed about the third goal, because at that point we still could have turned the tie in the second leg". The general consensus seems to be that people are glad they are alive while Ronaldo played. He never rests on his laurels.

Bicycle kicks are not uncommon. 14 goals in 9 matches. Wes Brown and Paul Scholes exchanged passes, the former swinging in a left-footed cross, with Ronaldo hanging in the air above makeshift right-back Michael Essien. His first was awesome.

"Given the result, maybe it's for the best that I'll miss the second leg".

Ex-England and Manchster defender Rio Ferdinand tweeted: "The opposing fans in the stadium applauding the great Cristiano after the bicycle kick and rightly so".

National Basketball Association star LeBron James on Instagram: "Are You Not Entertained!?!?!"

There was even recognition from a giant of a different sport as three-time National Basketball Association champion James joined in the praise, telling Ronaldo in a post on Instagram: "that's not even fair".

What you said on #bbcfootball...

His appetite for scoring goals is truly remarkable, and it was evident from every minute of the game. We should just enjoy!

Do you think Ronaldo can finish the season as the top goalscorer across all competitions?

Ronaldo executed a stunning overhead kick on the night, as Real ran out 3-0 winners in the first leg of their quarter-final encounter.
