China has formally filed a complaint against planned US tariffs on Chinese goods, the World Trade Organization said today.
China appears to be breaking WTO rules by denying foreign patent holders, including USA companies, basic patent rights to stop a Chinese entity from using the technology after a licensing contract ends, the USTR said.
China has launched a World Trade Organization challenge against the US targeting the proposed new tariffs on $50 billion worth of Chinese goods, according to a WTO filing on Thursday.
Trump has always been critical of the WTO, especially given its perceived role in China's economic rise.

According to the statement, China claims the tariffs would be in excess of the U.S.' bound rates and are inconsistent with the general agreement on tariffs and trade.
Trump announced tough tariffs on foreign-made steel and aluminum in March, triggering retaliatory Chinese tariffs on $3 billion in American exports. "Consequently, there is no basis under WTO rules for China's decision this week to raise tariffs against over $3 billion in USA exports".
The move follows a back and forth dispute between the two countries over free trade, that has escalated from an investigation by the United States into China's intellectual property practices to imposing tariffs on imports.
