NY state does have a medical marijuana program, though it is extremely restrictive. Nixon made a point to criticize such tactics on Saturday, and she had already been characterizing Cuomo as a Trump-like bully. I have seen firsthand the hard work NYPAN have been doing to organize for a better, more progressive NY, and stand up to Governor Cuomo's destructive policies by demanding we take big money out of politics once again. But Cuomo said Friday he would not seek its backing this year. When it comes to recreational marijuana, however, Cuomo calls it a gateway drug.
"There are a lot of good reasons for legalizing marijuana", she said. "This is a democracy".
Democratic candidate for governor Cynthia Nixon was endorsed today by New York Progressive Action Network (NYPAN), formally committing to work together to advance election reform, racial and social justice, and take on the democratic establishment in the race for New York governor. She has been openly critical of Cuomo, who she has characterized as a "centrist and Albany insider".

The moves are the latest in a bruising battle for the democratic nomination between the favored incumbent Cuomo and the upstart newcomer Nixon.
"I'm not naming names, but anybody who says they would not accept the endorsement of the Working Families Party is not a true progressive in New York State", Williams said.
Cuomo campaign spokeswoman Abbey Fashouer on Saturday said Cuomo's "record of progressive accomplishment is unmatched".
