In one of the strangest announcements I've ever come across, there's a new consumer electronics retail partnership between two of the industry's biggest rivals-or so it'd seem.
Best Buy already sells plenty of Amazon products, from Echo speakers to Kindle e-readers to Fire TV streaming devices.
Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos added on Twitter that he "couldn't ask for a better partner" than Best Buy.
Amazon and Best Buy are teaming to bring the next generation of Fire TV Edition smart televisions to market in the USA and Canada.
Such concerns didn't stop Best Buy from tapping Amazon's Alexa over the holidays, and it was rewarded. Customers might be more apt to grasp the benefits of an Alexa-powered set if they can try one out.
Night Court' actor Harry Anderson dies at 65
Loved his comedy, his appearances on SNL (when they still had stand-ups), and Night Court is one of my all-time favorite sitcoms. Anderson was a three-time Emmy nominee for his role as Judge Harry Stone in 'Night Court '.
Amazon and Best Buy have deepened their retail partnership. "It's only possible because we trust each other".
The retailers are joining forces to sell Fire TV Edition displays. They will be branded as "Amazon Fire TV Edition" and have all functionality of the Amazon Fire TV software, including integration with Amazon Alexa. The companies will sell 11 models, starting this summer with TVs by Toshiba and Best Buy house brand Insignia.
"There's never going to be enough scale online-most volume still happens offline-if they want to be successful with those products", he said.
Best Buy will be the exclusive retailer selling the TVs as part of a multiyear agreement that deepens the relationship between the two companies.
Best Buy gets to serve Amazon's enormous online customer base directly for the first time, and Amazon, which only has a small fleet of stores, can show products that customers like to see in person at hundreds of well trafficked locations across the United States.
