When you ask Siri to define the word mother, however, you may get an unexpectedly vulgar response. First noted by Redditors, the second meaning of "mother" is defined by Siri as 'short for motherf****r.' Well, well, well... It is said that Siri is getting the definition from Oxford Dictionary. The response was discovered on Saturday when Reddit user "thatwasabaddecision" posted in the Apple community, telling iPhone users to test it out.
"The weirdest part is the fact that Siri is such a prude when you swear at her", wrote one commenter. Another instance happened in 2013 when Siri offered another offensive definition for the word "retard" and the Russian version of Siri had responded negatively to queries with words "gay" and "lesbian".
What is unusual about the way in which Siri handles this request is that it completely bypasses some far-more-commonly used secondary definitions for mother and skips right to the fourth definition which is pretty vulgar. Saying yes to this will result in the AI informing them that mother is short for "motherfucker".
Apple shares rise as tech firm returns $100 billion to shareholders
Along with the new authorization, the Board of Directors has also approved a 16% increase in the company's quarterly dividend . That helped the company earn almost $14 billion in its fiscal second quarter, a 25 percent increase from a year ago.
From telling jokes to giving hilarious responses, it's well-known that Siri has quite the sense of humor. With each passing year, we expect Siri to get better and smartly understand the commands. This is a wide range of statistics, but even at the low end, that's a pretty high number considering the numerous requests that Siri deals with in any one day. Gadgets Now recently found out that Google's Assistant also shows up the same curse word in results when asked to define "Mother".
Apple's virtual assistant Siri is rooted deep in its devices. The Australian Siri also encountered the same issue.
