The Armenian Parliament Tuesday elected opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan as the country's prime minister.
After 10 years in power Mr Sargsyan left Armenia's presidency last month only to be elected prime minister by a parliament controlled by his Republican party.
Under the constitutional reforms ushered in by the 2015 referendum, the position of president has become largely ceremonial.
Former Prime Minister Serzh Sargsyan was forced to resign in April in response to a series of protests triggered by his appointment as prime minister, after he had already served as president for a decade. "God willing, you will dispel the lingering concerns of the HHK faction", said Baghdasarian".
Armenian-American rock star and political activist Serj Tankian joined a pro-opposition rally in the Armenian capital, Yerevan, on May 7, appearing on stage alongside opposition leader Nikol Pashinyan before leading the crowd in song.
Both Azerbaijan and Turkey have closed their borders with Armenia over the conflict, inhibiting trade and leaving Armenia in semi-isolation.

The father-of-four has earned a reputation as a man of the people, wearing his trademark camouflage T-shirt during protests and carrying a massive rucksack which he says contains "everything I need" - including a chocolate bar and a laptop. Since 13 April, tens of thousands have come out to the streets daily in what Pashinyan has called a "velvet revolution".
"People are waiting for a miracle, but the risk of disappointment is very great - the lack of a program and of a team make Pashinian very vulnerable", analyst Vigen Akopian said. The prime minister is now the head of government, and controls the army, police, National Security Service and the Security Council.
It has been an unlikely rise to power in the post-Soviet republic of about three million for the former newspaper editor.
The ruling party said it will not nominate their own candidate for the second round, just like in the first round. As a result of the protests, 23 APR Sargsyan has resigned.
