A student at an IN middle school was taken into custody Friday after one of his classmates and a teacher were wounded by gunfire, local officials said.
Maria Roney, whose son is an eighth-grade student, said that even with seeing school shootings across the country, she never expected it to happen at her son's school. "The situation resolved itself quickly and he was taken into custody". Police said the student was apprehended in the classroom.
"Never thought that this would happen", she said. The adult was taken to IU Health Methodist hospital.
Investigators believe the student acted alone, though he didn't release the boy's name or the names of the two victims, who were taken to hospitals in Indianapolis.
There are two victims, one adult teacher and one juvenile student.
The students at the middle school are reportedly being bused to Noblesville High School, and parents are being directed to meet there.
The police chief said the school, attended by more than 1,350 students, has been cleared, but he did not provide details of the incident.
The shooting in IN came a week after a gunman opened fire at Santa Fe High School near Houston, killing 10 people and injuring another 10.
Noblesville Schools Supt. Dr. Beth Niedermeyer said she has visited the families of both victims.

"You never think they're going to happen in your hometown", is how Lt. Bruce Barnes, a public information officer with Noblesville Police Department, began his comments at the press conference.
Jowitt said the first call came at 9:06 a.m., and multiple local agencies responded.
One week ago, a deadly school shooting in Texas killed 10 students and staff at Santa Fe High School.
Additionally, a second student was taken to Riverview Health in Noblesville for treatment for a fractured ankle.
So far this year, there has been an average of one school shooting a week in the U.S.
Authorities referred to a prompt and heroic response but didn't confirm accounts of the teacher tackling the student or describe the role of the resource officer who was stationed at the school.
"I honestly don't think much will change, other than the attitude, because this has been happening for a very long time", the student said.
"All this says to me is insanity has hit IN", one man, whose wife's grandson attends school IN the district, told RTV.
Jeremy Seaman tells The Indianapolis Star that his brother was conscious after the shooting and talked with his wife, telling her he was OK.
Jason Seaman, a 29-year-old science teacher and football coach at Noblesville Middle School, was credited by students for subduing the student gunman after one girl in the class was wounded.
