A violent and chaotic scene enfolded in Tumwater, Wash., late Sunday afternoon, ending when police say an armed bystander shot and killed a carjacker in a Walmart parking lot.
A 16-year-old girl was injured, but not seriously.
Tumwater police spokeswoman, Laura Wohl, said they were not releasing the Oakville man's name.
Nobody was injured that time but the same suspect then went outside and tried to steal a auto, shooting and wounding the man inside.
She said authorities believe they "have all the primary witnesses and will be able to move forward". Wohl said they later confirmed that the man doing the shooting was the same person involved in the carjacking.
Day was shot and killed by an armed civilian in the Walmart parking lot after a crime spree spanning three locations. The man's son, Kyle Fievez, said Monday his father was shot near the neck and in his torso, and that bullet fragments were near his spine. Officials said Monday that the driver remains in critical condition at a Seattle hospital.
A GoFundMe account set up for the man said he "lost his spleen and part of his pancreas", and "also ruptured his stomach. he is paralyzed from the neck down".
KOMO News reports that the man who shot the suspect was one of two armed citizens who had followed the suspect out of the Walmart after hearing shots fired at the display case.

Two bystanders outside the store drew their weapons and at least one of them fatally shot the gunman, Wohl told the Olympian.
Another woman who was shopping with her children told the network that they all fled the shop and hid behind a parked auto. He then tried to carjack another auto. The woman let her get in the auto, Wallner said.
About 4:40 p.m. Sunday, Olympia police were notified about a possible carjacking at an area gas station.
He fled after the attempt, according to police, and was later seen driving erratically before crashing into another vehicle in nearby Tumwater. She said the gunman carjacked a vehicle and drove to the Walmart.
Two people were injured in the area of Tyee Drive and Israel Road: A 16-year-old boy, not a 16-year-old girl as previously reported, and a second person.
Meanwhile, Day arrived at Walmart, entered the store to get ammunition, and exited again.
The suspect then proceeded to a local Walmart, where he attempted to steal two additional cars.
The man from Oakville retrieved a first-aid kit from his vehicle and provided aid to the driver who had been shot until medics arrived, police said.
