Real Time Astrology: July 2016

Each month this year seems to have been wildly different than the preceding one. June 2016 was peak intensity and a tough act to follow. Not all was bad news, but even the good news seemed to be of the “making lemonade out of lemons” variety. For most, it was nonstop stress and worry and confusion. July 2016 will start off edgy, but I will say that it will end up much better than it begins, so enjoy the simple pleasures of the season while you can.

Real Time Astrology: New Moon in Cancer July 4th, 2016

The cycles and rhythms of our inner and outer lives show their complexity at the New Moon at 12 degrees Cancer on July 4th, 2016. The Cancer New Moon will of course conjunct the Cancer Sun; along with Mercury at 9 degrees Cancer and Venus at 20 degrees Cancer, we will have a stellium in the Moon-ruled sign of hearth and home, family, heritage and roots, and patriotism. Occuring as it is on Independence Day in America, the love of country will be visibly celebrated here but felt everywhere, celebrated or not. The Cancer New Moon and stellium will sextile the Jupiter-North Node conjunction in Virgo (17 and 14 degrees, respectively) and trine Neptune retrograde at 11 Pisces. Those are lovely, supportive aspects. It’s the opposition to Pluto retrograde at 16 degrees Capricorn that can lead us down strange roads.

Fires Reignite As The Mars Retrograde Ends June 29th, 2016

The long wait is over. Hot blooded warrior planet Mars will be ending its retrograde period on Wednesday, June 29th at 6:38 PM CST, stationing direct at 23 degrees Scorpio. It’s been a long drag, this retrograde. Energy levels in the dumps, anger repressed and erupting in unhealthy, even destructive ways. The high octane nature of Mars isn’t happy when forced to slow down and introspect, and it’s shown since Mars went retrograde April 17th.

Now, the action can get moving once again. With Mars stationing direct, a valve has been turned, releasing pressure and allowing for movement where it has been blocked. It’d be a mistake to think this will unilaterally bring relief, however. People will experience this in myriad ways, but generally speaking the aggression that has been bottled up since April will find expression, for good or ill. It’s important to know that while you may be eager to get a move on, others may see you as stepping on toes in the process. While many are going to be breathing deep sighs of relief after Mars turns direct, many others are going to feel like being direct with the anger and/or resentment they endured during the retrograde. Good times for some, filthy moods for others. As always, the less stable in our societies might feel like acting out their reignited agitations.

Its a good time to reexamine the meaning of the retrograde. From the original post on Mars retrograde:

“How much do we have to put up with, endure, before we fight back? How much are we willing to tolerate? Where do we draw the lines and begin to say no? What course of action do we take when the lines are crossed? Mars retrograde in Scorpio and Sagittarius brings out indignation and righteous rage, and you know what? There’s nothing wrong with being angry. Anger serves a purpose. It is not unlike a fever acting as a warning sign that something terribly wrong is taking place and needs to be corrected. The Mars retrograde period this year will serve as the fever requesting our prompt attention. There is a hell of a lot wrong in this world, on every level, and there seems to be very little room to escape the sickness. We shouldn’t have to. The fight needs to start somewhere to restore holistic well being. Mars retrograde first has to work backwards, reminding us of where the anger and outrage really stems from originally.

After Mars stations direct on June 29th, and especially after Mars clears its retrograde shadow August 22nd, we will regain momentum and move forward once again in our lives with purpose and our hard won soul knowledge. Things that do not pan out during the retrograde period can see new life (maybe in a new vessel) once Mars goes direct. I’d like to say global events will simmer down after Mars turns direct as well, but we’ll have to see where we’re at once there. Hopefully the Mars retrograde will keep the worst of battle plans from really getting off the ground, but that won’t keep the powers that be from trying.”

Check the house of your natal chart where Mars is turning direct for a more personal understanding of how this might play out in your life. Read here for help finding transits in your chart.

Mars will remain at 23 degrees Scorpio until July 12th, really honing in on the lessons of its retrograde. What have you learned about the warrior within you? Within us?

Happy Birthday, America (2016 Edition)

Last year, for my post on America’s solar return  (falling every year on Independence Day/4th of July) I talked a little about how, as a country, America is experiencing birthing pains and death gasps simultaneously. Both grow stronger in this new growth cycle of the 2016/2017 solar return.

This year, the 4th of July coincides with a powerful New Moon in Cancer. This New Moon will feature, of course, in the solar return of the United States:   [Read more…]

Quickie Observations Of Election Day – November 8th, 2016

With communication planet Mercury currently in its home sign Gemini, and as we are nearing my country’s Independence Day/birthday/solar return, I thought it a good idea to mull over what will be in the sky for Election Day, November 8th. Since the beginning of the mutable Grand Cross, none of the Presidential candidates have been come out unscathed, with Trump being continually disowned by members of his own party following the Gemini New Moon hitting him hard as I said it would, and Clinton and the DNC being named in the hacker leak that came out after Mercury went into Gemini, puporting a smear campaign against Trump. Dishonest politicians?! I know, I know, try not to faint from the shock.

Mercury In Gemini Gets The Word Out!

Time to spill the tea! Mercury entered its home sign (or domicile) Gemini tonight, Sunday June 12th at 6:22 PM CST. Mercury will remain in its happy place until Wednesday, June 29th when it enters Cancer at 6:24 PM CST. The winged messenger planet of all things communication and information and data hasn’t done us many favors so far this year; in June, while on its own turf, a valve has been opened to allow the words to flow.

Mercury in Gemini isn’t just eager to throw the mental shackles off and get our synapses cracking, it has a lot of important messages to deliver and the savvy readers of Viva Combusta! will want to take advantage of this time. A lot of confusion and vague fears are circulating through the psychosphere this month, [Read more…]

Real Time Astrology: Full Moon in Sagittarius June 20, 2016

Unfinished business is the theme of the Full Moon at 29 degrees Sagittarius on Monday, June 20th at 6:02 AM CST. This is the second of two Sagittarius Full Moons in a row (the first was in May). The Full Moon will of course oppose the Sun at 29 Gemini, as well as opposing Venus at 3 degrees Cancer, trine Uranus at 23 degrees Aries and squaring Chiron at 25 degrees Pisces. Except for the square to Chiron, the other aspects aren’t particularly troublesome and in fact are nice ones to have, especially the opposition to Venus. The troubles arising during this Full Moon are in the details and in the background noise.  [Read more…]

R.I.P Muhammad Ali – Still The Greatest

ripali2016-500x532.jpg

Yet again a hero to many has passed away this year. Death seems to have made a pact with 2016 to only take those who meant so much to us, those who stood for something. Yesterday, June 3rd, it was announced that Muhammad Ali died. The fact that he had [Read more…]
