The sign of big hearts, big mouths and big hair emits a steady warmth from May 9th, 2017 through November 6th, 2018 as the North Node travels through the sign of Leo. Leo is a fixed sign, ruled by the Sun; the North Node shows where to travel to find our bliss. While in Virgo, the North Node taught us the importance of using discernment, discretion, critical thinking and attention to finer details in the face of doubt and uncertainty. Now, we’ve got some finely honed skills, we know how to use them and we’re not afraid to show it! From my post The North Node In Virgo Manifesto:
“The North Node is everyone’s manifesto. It is the point astrologers look to in a chart for greatest realization of potential and fulfillment. It is always opposite the South Node, that area of life that we are old pros at and do not need to further develop; in fact lingering too long around the South Node is always to our detriment. We are not static; we are meant to move and grow. The North Node is our mission statement, our declaration of intention; the path not yet travelled but a journey we need to undertake anyway. Think of it as a tree or vine: the South Node forms the roots, the soil and terrain we are confortable in, yet if the plant never leaves its roots it dies. It is meant to grow, push forward; even when lacking all the needed energy and nutrients to pull it off easily does not alter the intended purpose. Growth is necessary to sustain life itself, and the North Node is the manifesto outlining the steps.”
Leo is the sign that rules the heart, both the physical heart and the spiritual one. The transit of the North Node through Leo, the sign of the heart, is indeed a great time to take heart in who you are. Part of taking heart in your endeavors is summoning courage, another Leo theme. And with good reason, as heart and courage are psychically intertwined. The root of the word is cor- the Latin word for heart. Courage originally meant ‘To speak one’s mind by telling all one’s heart”, no fear, no shame.
From one of my previous posts:
“Often that comes from getting in touch with our inner child or artist, both of whom are also associated with Leo and who know a thing or two about leading fearlessly from the heart. (Watch for “out of the mouths of babes” observations from children!)… This is a perfect [time] to establish creative endeavors you’d like to make permanent. Leo is a fixed sign, meaning it prefers stability. The happiness, self expression, self assurance, lust for life, and creativity usually associated with Leo are not meant to be fleeting moments, few and far between; they are meant to be permanent fixtures in our lives, regular habits. It is sometimes easier to point to the harsh astrological influences as the major catalysts for big changes and growth in our lives. A different challenge presented by Leo is to derive equally major life lessons from the more benevolent astrological influences as well.”
And from another previous post:
“What turns you on? Can you shut out the chaos and make more time for your passions? The world is going to hell all around us, but this is not a new story. People have always survived it somehow, and experienced many of life’s joys amidst the pain. We are indeed heading into strange territory, so here at [the North Node in Leo] commit yourself to honoring whatever nourishes your life force. If it lifts your spirits and sustains your sense of well being, it isn’t trivial, superficial or trite; don’t allow yourself or others to be dismissive of your definition of fun. We need these things to get us through the hard times, otherwise we lose perspective and forget what makes any struggle worthwhile… This is nothing if not creatively inspired. Now, most people confuse creativity for artistic ability; and while artists obviously need creativity for their work, creativity is something that belongs to all of us. Creativity is whatever you make of it. It is whatever you throw yourself into that carries your spiritual signature, the unique imprint of your heart and soul, out into the world with it. This can apply to any endeavor we undertake in life: in business, in love and sex, in our families and our homes. Force a bit of your personality into the spaces around you. Of course, those who are artistically inclined already understand that genuine, original art requires that soul signature for the art to stand out and have significance.”
Of course, we’ll be fighting against the urges of the South Node in Aquarius, which is where we’ll get into trouble. The South Node here brings out some of the worst in the dawning Age of Aquarius. From my post These Are The Times That Try Our Souls:
“Does the Aquarian Age care what we want individually, or is it asking us to individually want the same things? The status quos of the Piscean Age have certainly been challenged and in some cases overthrown, only to be replaced by Aquarian Age status quos all its own, which is not to be challenged. The out of control political correctness and the culture of being perpetually offended are Aquarian Age phenomena. You can hardly say anything to anyone now without causing outrage for not conforming to their philosophy.
Is this humanitarian, egalitarian? Yes, in the darker Aquarian Age shadow way it is. To paraphrase Aquarian George Orwell’s Animal Farm: in this new age, all people are equal but some seemingly more equal than others, and it is only their views that seem to matter. Superficial nonconformists (in name only) that, weirdly, expect conformity. Many ideals being sold now as “empowering” and “progressive” we instinctually feel as degrading and dehumanizing; yet, in this supposedly more open minded era there is less freedom to express these sentiments. And this is occuring on every level of society, not only in the most visible arenas. The age that was supposed to bring about the social causes that would better the world for everyone is instead seeing social causes hijacked and distorted from their original aims, used to further agendas they were initially established to overturn. How much of the freedom promised by the Age of Aquarius resembles freedom as we’d define it?
Even though Aquarius is a sign associated with things like eccentricity and weirdness and rebellion, it is also a fixed (rigid ) sign and cannot handle changes… Fixed signs need things to work in synch and collectively we are all so far out of synch it’s not funny. Ironically, the technology that was an early gift of the Aquarian Age has played a part in this. There’s the obvious disconnect from nature and each other that overuse of tech can result in… I do think [technology and the Internet] gives many average people the ability to be thinkers ahead of their time. This sounds great, but in practice being ahead of your time means being terribly out of synch with other people around you who only see the present time. Should those people be happy with the way things are and not see the changes ahead that more future-oriented people see and sense, warm reception of ideas that go against the stature quo isn’t likely.”
Such contradictions will mark the transit of the South Node through Aquarius. The more you try to think outside the box, the more others will try to put you in a box. The more you resist labels, the more you’re saddled with (arbitrary) labels. The more you want to naturally express your raw sexual creative passion, the more your sexuality and creativity and passions will be policed by those claiming to be the most open minded. You should be oversexed every second of every day! Or, is it that you should be a completely sexless, homogenous, non-threatening android so as not to upset or offend? What are the thought police dictating to us today? The times they are a-changin’ fast, woe to the unfashionable scene-less ones who didn’t get the memo that society has a right to dictate your personality. You do you, just make sure you’re not doing it wrong, mmmkay?
Aquarius is the sign of humanitarianism and organizations and society, things that don’t usually sound alarms in people’s heads. Keep in mind the Third Reich and Jonestown and philosophies such as Manifest Destiny are/were in their own way “humanitarian”; born of a desire from a group of like minded people who wanted to do good for their society. Woe to those who just couldn’t see that it was for the greater good, right? That is a dark side of Aquarius: what looks good for humanity to some people from a detached, cerebral or scientific standpoint can look horrifying from a warm hearted, feeling, human perspective.
How do we use the power of the South Node to carry us towards the benefits of the North Node? By marrying head and heart. By not allowing science to eclipse our humanity. By grabbing a megaphone and not letting your tribe speak for you. By artists showing society a mirror reflection of itself. By finding your own inner artist! By removing ourselves from faux-humanitarian windbags, from friends who are more interested in being part of a scene but overlook what you bring to the table, from flakes who can’t stay the course. Be loud, be proud, dig your heels in and take a back seat to no one!
The North Node moves in a natural retrograde motion, working backwards through a sign more often than it moves forward. When the North Node first enters 29 degrees Leo on May 9th, 2017, it will be conjunct fixed star Regulus. At the mundane level, this will see the advancement of military and political storylines leading up to the first eclipse season involving the South Node in Aquarius and the North Node in Leo in August 2017. Regulus is a commonly highlighted fixed star in the charts of military generals. While on a personal level the North Node shows where we need to grow, on the mundane level the North Node in Leo shows a change from bombastic threats and uncertainty to bombastic certainty and stubbornness. Hard lines are drawn. Regulus derives from the Latin word for “little King” and that pretty much sums up the political scene for the summer of 2017. There’s a lot of honor at stake.
The Node’s are what separates the regular lunar cycle (New and Full Moons) from eclipses. No nodes, no eclipse. The reason the Nodes are considered fated, karmic, catalytic, and so on is because the Nodes are eclipse points and elipses are catalysts. The North Node in Leo, then, is the MVP in the incredibly significant eclipses ahead for us in 2017 and 2018. Most notably, the so-called “Great American Eclipse” of August 21st, 2017.
Leo was traditionally considered a “barren”, dry sign, being ruled by the scorching hot Sun and all. It’s hot. 2017 in general is a fiery year (along with Uranus in Aries and Saturn in Sagittarius); the transition from Virgo to Leo adds more dryness and heat. This is something to watch out for from an agricultural, meteorological and economical standpoint. Of course, this sets the stage for our first taste of major environmental upsets in 2018 when Uranus briefly enters Taurus.
An all around different climate is shaping up. Be brave and take heart!
