Real Time Astrology: New Moon In Libra September 30th-October 1st, 2016

The New Moon at 8 degrees Libra takes place on Friday, September 30th, 2016 at 7:11 PM Central Standard Time. For those of you in later time zones, this of course means it will take place in the wee hours of Saturday, October 1st. Since it is the second New Moon of September, you’ll see it referred to as a “Black Moon”. The Libra Black New Moon will conjunct Jupiter at 4 degrees Libra. It will also sextile Saturn at 11 degrees Sagittarius and inconjunct/quincunx Neptune retrograde at 9 degrees Pisces, thus triggering the waning Saturn-Neptune squares. It will also square Mars and Pluto in Capricorn (2 and 14 degrees, respectively.)

Wanna Seduce Aries? Seduce Their Mars Sign First!

The question of how to appeal to Aries – the sign of high vitality and low attention span – was brought up recently in a consultation with a client. I felt it was worthy of its own explanation in a post. A lot of people read those by-the-numbers formulaic astrology instructions on how to seduce this or that Sun or rising sign, with mixed results. Probably the very last sign you’d want to try such an approach with is Aries. It’s a common mistake to think that Aquarius is the most individualistic sign of the zodiac; that title actually belongs to Aries. Arise is the first sign of the zodiac and as such identifies closely with its ego and desires much the same way as a child does: purely and instinctively and immediately. Aries likes to think of itself as being as unique as a single snowflake (regardless of how true that might actually be), so approaching them as if they can be neatly summarized, as if you already know something about them, is the very last thing any of them want.

A better attempt of understanding how the Aries ego and energy is expressed, and how to pique their curiosity enough to want to pursue/be pursued, is to look at their Mars sign. You may think that passion for everyone is shown by their Mars; that’s true, but more true for Aries. As the ruling planet of individualistic, independent Aries, Mars colors each Aries persons approach to romance and seduction. Looking at the sign and house that Mars is in as well as the aspects it makes in the Aries persons birth chart will provide you with a lot of information about what gets them excited. Not all Aries want to pursue or be pursued in aggressive, Mars-y ways; their love style may not be obvious and it’s better to find out what they really want than to assume.

Real Time Astrology: Full Moon in Taurus October 27, 2015

Solidifying unfinished business is the focus of the Full Moon at 3 degrees Taurus on Tuesday,  October 27th at 7:05 A.M. Central Standard Time.  This is the first Full Moon since [Read more…]

Real Time Astrology: March 17 – 31, 2015

The end of March will be no less active astrologically than the beginning was, yet the activity swiftly takes on an altogether different flavor. Even amidst the nervous tension and unrest brought about by the final Uranus-Pluto square and the mega New Moon/Supermoon solar eclipse in Pisces (here), the moments and spaces in between begin to cool and crystallize. Chances to restore hope, sanity and equilibrium emerge yet may go unnoticed, drowned out. The chances still exist nonetheless, and it would be a shame for them to pass by unnoticed and unappreciated.

The first tiny wave of relief came late on Thursday the 12th as Mercury left its extended transit of cool, intellectual Aquarius for Pisces. Mercury is considered in detriment in Pisces; however it does bring with it unmatched emotional intelligence as well as greater feeling and sensitivity of thought and communication. A welcome change of pace, despite some of the logistical issues that can sometimes occur with Mercury in Pisces. Getting in touch with and expressing our feelings, dreams, and emotions seems much less of a daunting task. Opportunities for healthy and necessary psychic release present throughout the end of March. Mercury in Pisces will conjunct Neptune in Pisces Wednesday, March 18; sextile Pluto Sunday, March 22; and conjunct Chiron in Pisces on Tuesday, March 24 before Mercury leaves Pisces for Aries late on Monday, March 30.  Recent worries, pains and failures can cause acute sensitivity around these days, but discussing them with anyone around you that you sense might be on the same page can bring healing and closure.

Mercury in Pisces now can be wonderfully stimulating to the imagination, and restore inspiration that may be running dry. These images and feelings can potentially find physical shape once Venus enters the sign of its rulership, Taurus, on Tuesday, March 17 at 5:15 A.M. Venus is just so at home and at its sweetest in the sign of the garden of earthly delights. Venus in Taurus appreciates whatever it has on hand; it always wants more, the best there is, but will enjoy more modest pleasures equally. Art, beauty, glamour, music, dance, cuisine and other physical, sensual joys will be a little easier to come by with this transit. Venus in Taurus makes a yummy, dreamy sextile to Neptune in Pisces Tuesday, March 24; squares dramatic, playful Jupiter retrograde in Leo Friday, March 27; and trines Pluto in Capricorn Monday, March 30. Good times for a good time! These will be accompanied by a sense of lazy self indulgence, but that isn’t always a bad thing. Moments of beauty do not last forever, and with so many other difficult energies at work, it would be a shame to let the pleasures of the season pass you by.

Venus in Taurus is also a good time to look for financial opportunities of all sizes, particularly when in aspect to Jupiter and Pluto. A chance to make improvements to your earnings is also something you do not want to pass you by! Things may feel a little too comfortable with Venus matters at the last half of March, especially with Mercury in Pisces distorting our thought processes, making things seem a little fuzzy, foggy and out of focus. The benefits of Venus in Taurus will end like every transit does, so resist the urge to sit back and enjoy the ride.

Issues surrounding money, compensation, value and security really come to the forefront as we end March. Mars enters Taurus Tuesday, March 31 at 11:26 A.M. CST. While Venus is at home in Taurus, Mars is in detriment here. Rougher, hungrier, frustrated; not as gentle or sweet. The day before Mars enters Taurus, Mercury will enter Aries and we start April off with tension and strains all over again before we even hit the Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Libra on Saturday, April 4th that will strongly reactivate the Uranus-Pluto square…. and, just like that, we’re right back at a fever pitch. Appreciate the beauty and magic unfolding at the last half of March as much as you can.

Real Time Astrology: January 11-19, 2015

You’re not alone if you currently feel washed out, faded. We hit some flat notes at the start of 2015 and the winter/Capricorn season doldrums are in full swing. January has some out-of-synch cosmic energy and, while we will still be faced with tense trigger points, the middle-to-end of the month will provide a healthy, inspiring dash of romance and glamour to break up the foul mood and remind us that the magic in life surrounds us every day.

The good times start off with a conjunction between Mercury and Venus in Aquarius (at 9 and 10 degrees, respectively) exact on Sunday, January 11 at 11:33 p.m. Central Standard Time. Our hearts and our minds will be working in tandem around this time, allowing us to better verbalize and process the wants and needs of our hearts. We can freely give and more gracefully receive love; romantic love, of course, but also love of people in the world around us. Social graces are highlighted here, so strive to be the bigger person in conflicts if any arise. Snarkiness or underhanded behavior will be much less tolerable. Venus will sextile Uranus in Aries Tuesday the 13th at 2:12 p.m. followed by Mercury’s sextile to Uranus the next day at 4:25 a.m. I wouldn’t be surprised to see unexpected love statements around this time. If you’ve been contemplating speaking out about something in your love life, you may be the one surprising people. Even if romance isn’t on your agenda, making an effort to be more pleasant, sociable and emotionally demonstrative will be personally satisfying.

Underscoring this light pleasantness will be an opposition between Venus in Aquarius and Jupiter in Leo, exact at 19 degrees on Monday, January 19 at 7:44 a.m. There is a considerable warmth, optimism and infectious good mood with this one. Our ideals in love and relationships can be seen in a larger vision. A bit of attention seeking behavior may come with this, but not necessarily in a bad way. It can be wonderful for those who are usually shy or reserved in matters of the heart, or for those who feel they’ve been overlooked in the recent past. This is a nice time to put your personality on display; your quirks may seem more charming than off putting, and you may notice more- and become attracted to- the charming quirks of others. Venus-Jupiter may represent financial changes for some; if you experience this negatively, you may be able to turn it around if you’re savvy enough to look for opportunity.

The true romance and glamour begin Monday, January 12, as action/energy planet  Mars and sex/passion asteroid Eros both move into watery, emotional Pisces. Mars and Eros will be conjunct for the entire transit of Mars in Pisces ( Mars leaves Pisces and enters Aries February 19; Eros does the same February 27.)  Mars expresses itself in abstract ways in Pisces, and prefers to express itself through the arts, music, dance, spirituality, and sex. With Mars conjunct Eros, especially sex. Pisces is a sign acutely sensitive to pain and suffering and always looks to heal or let go of the pain. It also tries to merge itself with others, with beauty, with Love, with the universe. As the Mars-Eros conjunction reinvigorates our sexuality, our lust for life and love, the deep connections between love and spirituality,  we may be reminded of our shortcomings and sufferings in the more intimate areas of our life. Let it happen; its part of the process. There may be equal doses of bitter with the sweet but the bitter will not dominate. Merging everything together can be a richly rewarding spiritual experience. It goes without saying that this is an important influence for couples, but you do not need to be partnered to gain something from this. Your passions and your soul desires are yours, whether coupled or single. You can enjoy the experience of losing yourself to something higher regardless of your relationship status.

Feel good escapism of every kind will appeal with this transit; it can be very healthy in reasonable doses but obviously unhealthy if not kept in check and allowed to interfere with daily life.

Daily life may lose some of its appeal with this transit. A rude awakening may be the square between Mars in  Pisces and Saturn in Sagittarius at 2 degrees on Thursday, January 15, exact at 1:10 a.m. Reality may slap us in the face, leaving us feeling frustrated, as if we’re spinning our tires in the mud. Outer progress in general may feel stymied by Mars in Pisces, as direct action usually becomes thwarted. Our frustrations at our perceived lack of advancement around the Mars-Saturn square may leave us feeling unable to cope with harsh realities. This may be a dark, depressing moment in spite of the magic from the other transits. Mars in Pisces sometimes has a funny way of not standing up for itself, or passively accepting defeat too easily. Fight the urge to throw your hands up in despair if the Mars-Saturn square throws challenges your way. If you can’t move the obstacles, and you can’t give up… try to flow around it. It may take abstract courses of actions to move ahead.

Real Time Astrology: New Years Eve & New Years Day 2014-2015

2014 was a helluva year and many are understandably happy to see its end in sight. 2015 will be a dramatically different year of astrological transits affecting us on the personal and transpersonal levels; truly uncharted territory and a game-changer. At New Years Eve/Day people are naturally inclined to reflect on the previous year and plan goals for the upcoming year. This New Years the need for introspection and commitment to action is more critical than usual. Take a deep breath, create quiet time to calm your nerves, and find your center. Do not push this aside this year.

Make time to party, too! This will be a fun year to celebrate. The Moon will be in Taurus on New Year’s Eve Wednesday, December 31. It will move into Gemini New Years Day Thursday, January 1st at 11:09 a.m. Central Standard Time.  An exact opposition between Mars in Aquarius and Jupiter in Leo will take place at 1:49 p.m. CST January 1st but will strongly felt the night before, as the Moon in Taurus will be squaring it. Moon in Taurus is always a good time to have a good time, especially where music, dancing, food, alcohol and any other sensual pleasures are concerned. Mars in opposition to Jupiter will have energies running high and encouraging some to bite off more than they can chew and, as it will be squaring the Taurus Moon, the feeling of New Year’s Eve will be the saying: “Too much of a good thing can be wonderful!” I won’t bother warning the hard party types about how awful the hangovers and headaches will be the next day; going too far WILL feel worse than usual the next day but that’s what some will be driven to in spite of reason!

One potential cause of concern is the opposition between Mars in rebellious Aquarius and Jupiter in flamboyant Leo. As stated, this opposition causes energy to run high and sometimes doesn’t know when to stop. Pulling pranks at a party for attention and fun can be fairly harmless; loudmouthed condescension or crude, shocking insults will make for a bad scene, especially if the people involved are heavily intoxicated. The Mars-Jupiter opposition will be squaring a Taurus Moon and while Taurus isn’t a sign that angers easily – preferring to chill at a leisurely pace- once it does anger it has considerable stamina backing it that doesn’t fade fast and, in worst case scenarios, can become physical. That isn’t the usual manifestation, however it would be best to avoid anyone or any scene that’s too brash or obnoxious, lest it turn into something else.

For those who prefer a quieter commemoration to the years end, it looks like a wonderful night to stay home with friends or loved ones anyway. Music can be profoundly moving at this time, not only from the Taurus Moon so strongly emphasized but also from Pluto in Capricorn’s sextile to Chiron in Pisces in the very wee hours of the new year. Play music that reminds you of someone, that reminds you of what you went through this past year, that dredges up the strongest emotions. It will all feel comfortable, healing and inspiring. Actual dreams may be more interesting or vivid than usual as well.

For anyone doing the New Years resolution thing, you’re better off starting the resolve December 31 rather than January 1. Even though a Taurus Moon is prone to slowness and self indulgence, it is still a sign of emotional stability and health and does not easily change course once it has set its mind to something. The Moon moving into Gemini New Years Day is a flakier time to get a start on goals; more changeable, less decisive and resolute.

Even if you do not plan on celebrating in any fashion, or have any typical resolutions, as stated it will still be important to find your center now, to process fully the previous years experiences so you can move forward into the new one with more awareness and clarity. Astrological transits are often like tornadoes or hurricanes in that you’re aware you’re in a major storm, but you cannot fully assess the damage until the storm has cleared. ( I’ve lived in “Tornado Alley” most of my life; there’s been times I didn’t know the tornado was there until I was close enough to it to practically shake hands…)  The transits of 2014 were life altering on every level. Even if some of what was written about these configurations seemed like overblown hype at the time, with hindsight we can now assess what was changed and how deep the impact was.

For those who lost the most, endured the tough physical, emotional and psychic lessons, what you have to show for it is who you are now, who you have become. Your character has firmed up, you’ve eyes have been opened to how this life really works, and you have a very deep well of Truth to draw from now. At this New Year, perhaps your best resolution is to promise yourself you’ll live by your wisdom gleaned from those painful episodes,  you’ll help to end the dynamics that create such chaos in the first place, you’ll turn Truth into action and tangible results. If you make no other resolution for 2015, resolve to return to the land of the living, and commit to fighting the good fights!

Put on your red shoes and dance the blues!

Friday and Saturday nights -November 28 & 29- were made for dancers. The Moon will be in Pisces both nights conjunct Neptune and Chiron in Pisces, with Pisces ruler Neptune strongly aspected by Sun, Venus and Mercury. This is also the last weekend energetic Mars will be in earthy Capricorn. (In a natal chart, any personal planets in water or earth signs is an indication of a love of dance, but more so if it is Mars.) There is also tremendous fire, with a Sagittarius stellium, Jupiter in Leo and Uranus in Aries. Shake off whatever doldrums are still clinging on from the beginning of this month! This is a terrible weekend for practical undertakings, so go with the natural flow and lose yourself to beauty and inspiration when and where you can. If at all possible, find a dance floor to allow this magic to take place.
