Real Time Astrology: Full Moon In Cancer January 12th, 2017

The first lunation of 2017 starts with the Full Moon at 22 degrees Cancer on Thursday, January 12th (5:34 AM). As this is a Full Moon that occurs during the night for a majority of readers, please keep in mind we’ll feel the effects leading up to it the evening before. And we’ll definitely feel this one, with the Moon in the sign she resides. The Full Moon trines Mars at 18 degrees Pisces and Chiron at 21 degrees Pisces; harmonious watery aspects that emphasize the healing sensitivity potential. Mostly, though, the story here is the cardinal Grand Cross the Cancer Full Moon makes: squaring exact Jupiter at 22 degrees Libra, square Uranus at 20 degrees Aries and opposing Pluto at 17 degrees Capricorn.

The cardinal Grand Cross has multiple ways of playing out. Whether you find this stressful or exhilarating depends on how you handle the cardinal signs in general. For sure, it can be pushy, bossy, brash. Emotional turmoil and mood swings. It can also push people out of the dredge of the Pisces stellium active in January and get them moving in the right direction again. Cardinal signs initiate, and all four are bound up in this Full Moon. Many will feel emboldened to take on things they’d normally shy away from. If you find this Full Moon too much to handle, don’t assume everyone feels the way you do. Some will find it exciting in the best sense and won’t have much patience for people not moving at their speed.

Considering much of 2016 was dominated by a long lasting mutable T-square and on/off mutable Grand Cross, starting the 2017 lunar cycle with the Moon in domicile forming a cardinal Grand Cross shows an early rebalancing of energies to be played out in the year to come. We’re leaving behind the process of slowly adapting to new realities and now must act on them.

The aspects to Mars and Chiron in Pisces will definitely be lighting up our dream life, those of you who connect your dreams to the lunar cycles should pay attention here. Overall, while this Full Moon screams “go big or go home!” it’s actually one that most will find productive. Not necessarily easy, but fruitful. Protecting our emotional needs (Full Moon in Cancer) from the death grind of politics and business (Pluto in Capricorn); forming new and/or better alliances (Jupiter in Libra) while protecting and asserting our individuality (Uranus in Aries). The lunar cycles sensitize us to the larger transits affecting Earth as a whole and I fully expect this Cancer Full Moon to bring home movement from the big picture. Watch out for world events and especially financial/money news.

As always, look to the house of your natal chart that this Full Moon in Cancer and cardinal Grand Cross falls in for further information about how it will affect you personally. Read here for easy instructions if you don’t know how to find it.

Real Time Astrology: New Moon In Capricorn December 28th-29th, 2016

The last New Moon of 2016 falls either late Wednesday night on December 28th or in the wee hours of Thursday, December 29th (0:53 AM Central Standard Time). The New Moon will be at 7 degrees Capricorn, tightly conjunct Mercury retrograde at 6 degrees Capricorn. The New Moon will sextile a close conjunction of Mars at 7 degrees Pisces and Neptune at 9 degrees Pisces. The New Moon is nine degrees away from a conjunction to Pluto in Capricorn, an orb too wide to typically be used. However, when Mercury stationed retrograde on December 19th, it did so in tight conjunction to Pluto; this Capricorn New Moon is tightly conjunct Mercury retrograde so I’d expect some Plutonic news coming through at this lunation.

The conjunction to Mercury retrograde and the whiff of Pluto accompanying it will be a big story here. [Read more…]

Real Time Astrology: Full Moon Supermoon In Taurus November 14, 2016

The one of a kind Full Moon at 22 degrees Taurus takes place Monday, November 14th (7:52 AM CST). You’re going to be seeing a lot written about this Moon, not just because it is also a Supermoon -occuring at perigee- but also because it’s the largest Full Moon Supermoon since 1948; we won’t see one this visibly huge again until 2034! This Full Moon will be nearly 15% larger and 30% brighter than any regular Full Moon. It will be at its biggest and brightest during the night before, so stay up late on Sunday November 13th or get up early Monday November 14th to take in the full Full Moon effect! [Read more…]

Halloween/Day Of The Dead/All Soul’s & Saints Day 2016

If you’ve never given thought to celebrating the ancestral holidays of Scorpio season beyond passing out candy to kids, this year you might want to start. There is a Scorpio New Moon that precedes Halloween this year, on Sunday, October 30th. This of course leads to Day Of The Dead/Diá de los Muertos on November 1st-2nd, All Saints Day on November 1st and All Souls Day on November 2nd. Last year we had a Cancer Moon that kicked off ancestor/spirit season and I wrote that the Cancer Moon shows our connection to heritage, genealogy, family lineage and roots. This year it’s the Scorpio New Moon that starts ancestor/spirit season, which is perhaps more potent since Scorpio (ruled by Pluto) is the sign of death itself, the legacies that survive from beyond the grave, the transmutation of energy from one state of being to the next. Real Time Astrology: Full Moon Lunar Eclipse in Pisces September 16th, 2016

The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse at 24 degrees Pisces happens on Friday, September 16th at 2:05 PM CST. While the September 1st eclipse was a near total eclipse, this one on September 16th is a penumbral eclipse, though no less complex. The Full Moon Lunar Eclipse opposes Mercury retrograde at 17 degrees Virgo, squares Mars at 23 degrees Sagittarius, and widely opposes Jupiter newly in Libra (at 1 degree). It will be tightly conjunct Chiron, which is retrograde at 22 degrees Pisces. The North Node in Virgo/South Node in Pisces is at 12 degrees, so while this eclipse does involve the Moon’s Nodes it, of course, isn’t nearly as tight as the previous Virgo New Moon Solar Eclipse. However, many themes of that eclipse will be repeating themselves here, most notably the strong mutable T-square (which I covered in my previous Virgo eclipse article.)

Real Time Astrology: Full Moon (Maybe Lunar Eclipse) In Aquarius August 18th, 2016

The startling electric Full Moon at 25 degrees Aquarius peaks on Thursday, August 18th at 4:27 AM CST. There is a bit of debate over this one, with some calling it a penumbral lunar eclipse and others saying it is just shy of meeting eclipse criteria. Either way, it’s going to be buzzing! Besides the obvious opposition to the Sun at 25 degrees Leo, the Aquarius Full Moon and maybe penumbral lunar eclipse will tightly sextile Uranus retrograde at 24 degrees Aries, as well as form a tight inconjunct (sometimes called quincunx) to Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Virgo  (23 and 25 degrees, respectively).

Aquarius is the sign of the weird and quirky, being ruled by unorthodox Uranus. Uranus in the martial sign of Aries is the freedom fighter, asserting individual rights and pushing pack against tyranny, conformity, homogenization and globalization. With Uranus retrograde, the fight for our right to fly our freak flags has become an inner, introverted focus rather than something we project to the world. The lunar cycle sensitizes us at the personal, intimate level to the bigger workings of the world at large and the Full Moon in Aquarius sextile (easy, flowing aspect) to Uranus Rx in Aries is a time of flying our freak flags proudly.

As this Full Moon/maybe lunar eclipse is bursting with intensity and energy of Aquarius and Uranus, it’s going to be highlighting issues we’re faced with as people living during the transition from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. So, it’s as good a time as any to review what the Age of Aquarius is, what its higher potentials and dark shadow sides are.

Unknown artist. (Thanks to the reader who sent this in!)

The cycles and rhythms of our inner and outer lives show their complexity at the New Moon at 12 degrees Cancer on July 4th, 2016. The Cancer New Moon will of course conjunct the Cancer Sun; along with Mercury at 9 degrees Cancer and Venus at 20 degrees Cancer, we will have a stellium in the Moon-ruled sign of hearth and home, family, heritage and roots, and patriotism. Occuring as it is on Independence Day in America, the love of country will be visibly celebrated here but felt everywhere, celebrated or not. The Cancer New Moon and stellium will sextile the Jupiter-North Node conjunction in Virgo (17 and 14 degrees, respectively) and trine Neptune retrograde at 11 Pisces. Those are lovely, supportive aspects. It’s the opposition to Pluto retrograde at 16 degrees Capricorn that can lead us down strange roads.

Real Time Astrology: New Moon Solar Eclipse Supermoon in Pisces March 8, 2016

What lurks beneath quiet waters? Pic by Matty Smith.

The Walt Whitman line “I am large, I contain multitudes” is fitting for this potent and complex New Moon Solar Eclipse at 18 degrees Pisces on Tuesday, March 8th at 7:54 PM CST. It occurs at perigee and thus is a Supermoon as well as a complete total eclipse, meaning that the typical large appearance of a Supermoon will instead be replaced by utter blackness, except [Read more…]
