2017: The Year Of Conviction And Contradictions

2017 predictions forecast astrology

2016 was, of course, the year of change and transition. A rocky, slippery slope that we can see clearer in retrospect was a detour into unknown territory for the purpose of testing our faith and mettle. In many ways 2017 will pick us up out of the ditch and move us forward on a clear trajectory again. Regaining a more visible and structured path does not translate into an easier year; 2017 is a year of contradictions openly challenging our convictions as we’re honing them.

The general gist of what 2017 has in store: [Read more…]

Real Time Astrology: Full Moon In Cancer January 12th, 2017

The first lunation of 2017 starts with the Full Moon at 22 degrees Cancer on Thursday, January 12th (5:34 AM). As this is a Full Moon that occurs during the night for a majority of readers, please keep in mind we’ll feel the effects leading up to it the evening before. And we’ll definitely feel this one, with the Moon in the sign she resides. The Full Moon trines Mars at 18 degrees Pisces and Chiron at 21 degrees Pisces; harmonious watery aspects that emphasize the healing sensitivity potential. Mostly, though, the story here is the cardinal Grand Cross the Cancer Full Moon makes: squaring exact Jupiter at 22 degrees Libra, square Uranus at 20 degrees Aries and opposing Pluto at 17 degrees Capricorn.

The cardinal Grand Cross has multiple ways of playing out. Whether you find this stressful or exhilarating depends on how you handle the cardinal signs in general. For sure, it can be pushy, bossy, brash. Emotional turmoil and mood swings. It can also push people out of the dredge of the Pisces stellium active in January and get them moving in the right direction again. Cardinal signs initiate, and all four are bound up in this Full Moon. Many will feel emboldened to take on things they’d normally shy away from. If you find this Full Moon too much to handle, don’t assume everyone feels the way you do. Some will find it exciting in the best sense and won’t have much patience for people not moving at their speed.

Considering much of 2016 was dominated by a long lasting mutable T-square and on/off mutable Grand Cross, starting the 2017 lunar cycle with the Moon in domicile forming a cardinal Grand Cross shows an early rebalancing of energies to be played out in the year to come. We’re leaving behind the process of slowly adapting to new realities and now must act on them.

The aspects to Mars and Chiron in Pisces will definitely be lighting up our dream life, those of you who connect your dreams to the lunar cycles should pay attention here. Overall, while this Full Moon screams “go big or go home!” it’s actually one that most will find productive. Not necessarily easy, but fruitful. Protecting our emotional needs (Full Moon in Cancer) from the death grind of politics and business (Pluto in Capricorn); forming new and/or better alliances (Jupiter in Libra) while protecting and asserting our individuality (Uranus in Aries). The lunar cycles sensitize us to the larger transits affecting Earth as a whole and I fully expect this Cancer Full Moon to bring home movement from the big picture. Watch out for world events and especially financial/money news.

As always, look to the house of your natal chart that this Full Moon in Cancer and cardinal Grand Cross falls in for further information about how it will affect you personally. Read here for easy instructions if you don’t know how to find it.

Real Time Astrology: November 2016

2016 has seen each month bring a different flavor, alternating between the sublime to the out of control. November rides the middle ground; not as upsetting as earlier in the year but definitely bumpier than the relative calm of October.  [Read more…]

Real Time Astrology: October 2016

October is not without its rough patches, of course, but by and large the space weather this month allows everyone to cool their engines and breathe easy. Mercury retrograde is over, eclipse season is over, the Saturn-Neptune square still around but waning. Cardinal T-square ahead for November and December, but not tight enough this month to create major problems yet. Mars is in Capricorn, the sign of its exaltation. Jupiter now getting some mojo back being in Libra.

Real Time Astrology: New Moon In Libra September 30th-October 1st, 2016

The New Moon at 8 degrees Libra takes place on Friday, September 30th, 2016 at 7:11 PM Central Standard Time. For those of you in later time zones, this of course means it will take place in the wee hours of Saturday, October 1st. Since it is the second New Moon of September, you’ll see it referred to as a “Black Moon”. The Libra Black New Moon will conjunct Jupiter at 4 degrees Libra. It will also sextile Saturn at 11 degrees Sagittarius and inconjunct/quincunx Neptune retrograde at 9 degrees Pisces, thus triggering the waning Saturn-Neptune squares. It will also square Mars and Pluto in Capricorn (2 and 14 degrees, respectively.)

Stop What You’re Doing Immediately And Find Where Freddie Mercury Is In Your Chart!

Freddie Mercury astrology asteroid

Good old fashioned lover boy.

Just when Mercury retrograde was starting to get me down, the real star powered Mercury made everything right again!

There’s been a dizzying amount of astronomical discoveries so far in 2016 (the non-discovery of Planet 9 or Planet X or whatever notwithstanding) that I’ve been meaning to write about but haven’t got around to yet (with Mercury retrograde, I’ve been doing battle with people plagiarizing my writing, for real). But today, September 5th, 2016, the most important moment in astrology and astronomy history (maybe ever) was announced. Today, to commemorate what would’ve been Freddie Mercury’s 70th birthday, asteroid #17473 was renamed Freddiemercury. Asteroid #17473 was discovered in 1991, the same year Mercury left this world, providing proof he really was from another dimension. As I’ve written about before, any celestial body worth its salt will have a synchronistic connection and backstory to its name; the synch of Freddiemercury is all the proof I need that this virtuoso cosmic body should be used in every astrology reading henceforth!

No, seriously, find Freddiemercury in your chart. Now. Go to https://astro.com and put in your birth data to make a free chart. Once you’ve saved it, at the top of the screen click “Free Horoscopes” and click on “Extended Chart Selection”. Once there, scroll to the bottom of the screen. You’ll see an empty bar that allows you to enter asteroid numbers. Put in 17473 and click “Click Here To Show The Chart”. Boom! You now know where Freddie Mercury lives on in each of us!

Since it’s Mercury’s birthday today, let’s have a look at his chart:

Freddie Mercury asteroid astrology

(You’ll notice he had his own namesake asteroid Freddiemercury in very tight conjunction to his planet Mercury. Tee hee.)

No surprise he was a Leo rising, is it? Sun in the 1st house, beautifully artistic Sagittarius Moon in the 5th, Venus raunchy in the via combusta. Jupiter in Libra. And, like many celebrities, he was a 12th house person as well; for him it was Pluto and Saturn behind the scenes. Underneath the flashy exterior, a world of pain and dreams and beauty and lonesome yearning for something this world never offers. Saturn in hard aspect to Jupiter lead to his overbite caused from having four extra teeth, which he wouldn’t remove because he believed it created the beautiful sound of his voice, and who’d ever want to lose this:

The piano playing, though? That’s all Mercury (no pun intended). Venus and Leo and the 5th house and Jupiter in Libra, etc.: these are things in astrology that show creative artistic appreciation and potential but the manual dexterity performers run on is, more often than not, their Mercury and/or Mars. (Which is why I’m currently writing about a musician and not playing music myself…) Freddie Mercury was a Virgo and Virgo runs on proper skills. Those people who go on and on about what a flamboyant “showman” he was are doing his memory a disservice; he was a proper songwriter, producer, and multi-instrument musician as much as, or more, than anything else. He did it so well he made it look easy.

So, happy birthday Freddie Mercury and thank you for even glamming up something like astrology.

Real Time Astrology: September 2016

Imagine driving in the dark on a bad stretch of washed-out road and drunk drivers swerving around you. That’s a literal possibility this month, but also an apt description of the astrological weather. We’ll come out the other side of things just like we always do, but not without turbulence.

Writing About Jupiter In Libra For The Huffington Post (And Various Other Sundries)

Today, despite the Virgo stellium and mutable T-square in the sky, I published my first post on The Huffington Post as a contributing blogger. It’s titled 6 Ways To Get The Most Out Of Jupiter In Libra. Just as it sounds, too! It’s a basic overview of maximizing the transit of Jupiter in Libra that begins September 9th, simple enough for astrology newbies to understand it. It is a simplified version of my in depth look at Jupiter in Libra: Preaching The Gospel Of Love And Justice.

I’m excited and ready for this transit, so I figured my first HuffPo entry should start there. I fully realize that the space weather in 2016 hasn’t been the best at sowing widespread optimism; while we’re still in for a lot of turbulence ahead I do genuinely feel that the ingress of Jupiter into Libra will lift spirits.

At the end of my HuffPo article on Jupiter in Libra, I point out that one of the biggest social media websites in existence, YouTube, was a product of the last transit of Jupiter in Libra from late 2004 through most of 2005. I am working on a post about the direction I think social media is taking and the astrology behind it; not sure yet if I’ll post it here or on Huffington Post. That’s a new experience for me and one I’ll need to feel out.

For those of you on social networking sites, I’m curious about your opinions of social media as it exists today. What sites do you use the most? Which ones have you abandoned and why? If you could design your own social network, what would it have that you don’t see now?

I’ve also toyed with the idea before of a Viva Combusta! astrology forum, one of those old school, bare bones types. Would you join if such a thing existed? Do you guys miss in depth conversation like what takes place on forums, or do you prefer using social media for specific purposes and contacts only?
