Real Time Astrology: September 2016

Imagine driving in the dark on a bad stretch of washed-out road and drunk drivers swerving around you. That’s a literal possibility this month, but also an apt description of the astrological weather. We’ll come out the other side of things just like we always do, but not without turbulence.

Real Time Astrology: New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo September 1st, 2016

The New Moon Solar Eclipse at 9 degrees Virgo takes place on Thursday, September 1st, 4:03 AM Central Standard Time. It is an annular solar eclipse, meaning it will create the visible coronal ring (“ring of fire”) most people associate with eclipses. The closer an eclipse is to the Moon’s Nodes, the stronger; with the North Node at 12 degrees Virgo this does set us up for a powerful and intense eclipse! The Sun, New Moon and North Node all in Virgo will be joined by Mercury retrograde in exact conjunction to Jupiter at 28 degrees Virgo. That’s quite the five star stellium! The Virgo New Moon/Solar Eclipse/stellium will also form a formidable mutable T-square by squaring Mars at 14 degrees Sagittarius and Saturn at 10 Sagittarius, and opposing Neptune retrograde at 10 degrees Pisces.

The orbs are tight for this one; no room for anything but a major event. The depth, power and complexity of everything that’s going into this eclipse gives me a sense of a “perfect storm”, in that it will probably be easier to assess the aftermath than it will be trying to understand it as it unfolds.

Re-Educate Yourself With Mercury Retrograde In Virgo August 30th-September 22nd, 2016

The most casual of astrology readers know that Mercury retrogrades are a hot mess, a logistical nightmare. However, some Mercury retrogrades are more productive, bear more fruit than others. At the end of August and through most of September (August 30th through September 22nd, specifically), Mercury will retrograde through its domicile  (the sign it rules) Virgo. A Mercury retrograde in the sign of its rulership is not any less squirrel-ly or weird for it; perhaps more weird and squirrel-ly for it. It won’t be boring or dull, at least. Working with the retrograde rather than fighting it can be a re-training and re-shaping of our minds.

Real Time Astrology: New Moon in Leo August 2, 2016

The sublime New Moon at 10 degrees Leo takes place on Tuesday, August 2nd at 3:45 PM CST. Compared to the other wild and often stressful lunations we’ve had so far in 2016, this Leo New Moon looks great! It’s not a particularly potent one, which again is something to be grateful for. The Leo New Moon forms a very tight trine to Saturn retrograde at 9 degrees Sagittarius; a stabilizing harmonious aspects that takes the uplifted mood and roots it in solid form. Buoyant but not over-the-top.

Real Time Astrology: June 2016

This June, the quicker you accept that you as a person and we as a collective are losing grips on reality, the better. The astrology in June is constant high weirdness, strange sensations, unexpected twists. [Read more…]

What lurks beneath quiet waters? Pic by Matty Smith.

The Walt Whitman line “I am large, I contain multitudes” is fitting for this potent and complex New Moon Solar Eclipse at 18 degrees Pisces on Tuesday, March 8th at 7:54 PM CST. It occurs at perigee and thus is a Supermoon as well as a complete total eclipse, meaning that the typical large appearance of a Supermoon will instead be replaced by utter blackness, except [Read more…]
