Hurry Up And Wait!: Mercury Retrograde In Aries & Taurus April 9th-May 3rd, 2017

Do you ever read much good about Mercury retrograde periods? They’re a notorious pain in the ass; even people who don’t follow astrology much or at all have heard the reputation Mercury retrograde has. The last Mercury retrograde fell largely in Capricorn and was particularly brutal, the kind of retrograde that earns its stereotype. Well, the upcoming Mercury retrograde from April 9th until May 3rd would like a chance to literally rearrange our thinking. It’s gonna get weird… [Read more…]

Update On The Nearing U.S. Presidential Election Day 2016

Well, fellow Americans, here we are bracing for what most people are calling the most important and simultaneously the most insane Presidential election of our lifetimes. The “October surprise” cliché turned into an entire month of surprises; too many in quick succession to fully assess any of them. However, there’s more than enough information available to understand that this election will also be the dirtiest we’ve seen so far, and based on how’s it’s gone so far there’s no doubt that there’s still plenty more dirt to come. Thank you Mercury in Scorpio for calling out bullshit wherever you see it; thank you Jupiter in Libra for justice coming from a higher court that says no one is above the law (okay, maybe above man-made laws, but not above laws of nature. Everyone’s judged the same in the end.)

Real Time Astrology: Full Moon Supermoon In Aries October 15th/16th, 2016

Wild, sexy and dangerous, the Full Moon Supermoon at 23 degrees Aries occurs Saturday, October 15th or  Sunday, October 16th, depending on your location. (It is exact at 11:23 PM Central Standard Time on Saturday night.) This Aries Full Moon is also a supermoon, meaning it coincides with lunar perigee, or the point at which the Moon is closest to the Earth. Huge, highly visible Full Moon to match the volatile emotional temperature. The Full Moon will be in very tight conjunction to Uranus retrograde at 22 degrees Aries, and will square Pluto at 15 degrees Capricorn. That’s right, it is bringing back the dormant Uranus-Pluto square! The lunation is also in wide opposition to Mercury at 15 degrees Libra. Pluto at 15 degrees Capricorn means the orb is wide for Pluto too, but Pluto is a heavy hitter and with the tight conjunction of Uranus, the story of the lunation will be the temporary cardinal T-square which will set the tone for the longer lasting cardinal T-square involving Uranus-Pluto by years end and into 2017.

I’ve said before that the lunar cycles sensitize us to the larger transits; bringing the big issues home. This particular Full Moon in the pioneering sign of Aries will be sensitizing us to the next curveball coming our way. 2016 was a rough go for many people; two steps forward, one step back, constant uncertainty. Much of that peaked in September during the final eclipse season of the year. The Libra New Moon at the end of September, being the first lunation after eclipse season, helped shake off the feeling of getting nowhere. Now, this Aries Full Moon draws our attention to the future, the shape of things to come.

Real Time Astrology: Full Moon (Maybe Lunar Eclipse) In Aquarius August 18th, 2016

The startling electric Full Moon at 25 degrees Aquarius peaks on Thursday, August 18th at 4:27 AM CST. There is a bit of debate over this one, with some calling it a penumbral lunar eclipse and others saying it is just shy of meeting eclipse criteria. Either way, it’s going to be buzzing! Besides the obvious opposition to the Sun at 25 degrees Leo, the Aquarius Full Moon and maybe penumbral lunar eclipse will tightly sextile Uranus retrograde at 24 degrees Aries, as well as form a tight inconjunct (sometimes called quincunx) to Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Virgo  (23 and 25 degrees, respectively).

Aquarius is the sign of the weird and quirky, being ruled by unorthodox Uranus. Uranus in the martial sign of Aries is the freedom fighter, asserting individual rights and pushing pack against tyranny, conformity, homogenization and globalization. With Uranus retrograde, the fight for our right to fly our freak flags has become an inner, introverted focus rather than something we project to the world. The lunar cycle sensitizes us at the personal, intimate level to the bigger workings of the world at large and the Full Moon in Aquarius sextile (easy, flowing aspect) to Uranus Rx in Aries is a time of flying our freak flags proudly.

As this Full Moon/maybe lunar eclipse is bursting with intensity and energy of Aquarius and Uranus, it’s going to be highlighting issues we’re faced with as people living during the transition from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. So, it’s as good a time as any to review what the Age of Aquarius is, what its higher potentials and dark shadow sides are.

Eris – Never A Moments Peace?

I’m sort of cynical about certain things in modern astrology. Traditional astrology became seen as too limited and fatalistic, replaced with a don’t-worry-be-happy, silver linings everywhere way of thinking that I personally feels interferes with the ability to tell it like it is without being seen as “negative”. Another thing that gets under my skin sometimes about modern astrology is how quickly every newly discovered celestial body is assigned meanings, well before any proper vetting process has begun. There are infinite such bodies, not all can be relevant to human life. This was my gripe with the non-discovery of “Planet 9” earlier this year; the orbit of Planet 9 is so slow it’d barely move a single degree in a humans lifetime; yet, already some astrologers have assigned overblown meaning to it. Before it’s even actually been properly “discovered”, no less. There are Monty Python asteroids, I’m surprised there aren’t astrologers arguing over their meaning in a birth chart or a nations chart.

One of the more recent discoveries that does stand out from the rest is Eris, discovered in January 2005, coincidentally by the same team that demoted Pluto from major planet status and that announced the likelihood of Planet 9. I was skeptical of Eris at first, too; it stays in a single sign anywhere from 15 to 125 years, making it a stretch to even call it a “generational” effect during the longer transits. (Eris entered Aries in 1927 and will not enter the next sign of Taurus until 2048…). 10 years after discovery is not all that long of a learning process in how a body behaves astrologically. But, events worldwide in recent weeks has made me take a closer look at Eris, particularly as it is currently conjunct Uranus in Aries.

Real Time Astrology: July 2016

Each month this year seems to have been wildly different than the preceding one. June 2016 was peak intensity and a tough act to follow. Not all was bad news, but even the good news seemed to be of the “making lemonade out of lemons” variety. For most, it was nonstop stress and worry and confusion. July 2016 will start off edgy, but I will say that it will end up much better than it begins, so enjoy the simple pleasures of the season while you can.

Quickie Observations Of Election Day – November 8th, 2016

With communication planet Mercury currently in its home sign Gemini, and as we are nearing my country’s Independence Day/birthday/solar return, I thought it a good idea to mull over what will be in the sky for Election Day, November 8th. Since the beginning of the mutable Grand Cross, none of the Presidential candidates have been come out unscathed, with Trump being continually disowned by members of his own party following the Gemini New Moon hitting him hard as I said it would, and Clinton and the DNC being named in the hacker leak that came out after Mercury went into Gemini, puporting a smear campaign against Trump. Dishonest politicians?! I know, I know, try not to faint from the shock.
