Venus-Pluto: Lovely, Dark And Deep

I have a random request: Can you do an article about Venus-Pluto? (Question brought to by my upcoming transit Venus conjunct natal Pluto. But we also have that wild Thanksgiving T-square with Jupiter-Pluto-Uranus which has Venus conjunct Pluto exact. So it could be of general interest too right?) But it seems like it always brings so much angst…and not much else. ~ bomega

This was a question asked by a reader in the comments section just before Mercury retrograde in Virgo, which is why I didn’t respond right away. We do have a Venus-Pluto conjunction coming up in time for Thanksgiving, and it’s Scorpio season, so why not take a look at Plutonic love? [Read more…]

Do You Have “Joyful” Planets In Your Chart?

This has nothing to do with how joyful you are as a person, but brownie points to you if you automatically replied “yes!” before you even read beyond the post title!

“Planetary joy” is something of an older, traditional thing that’s not used as often anymore. It designates each of the seven traditional visible celestial bodies a house that they are/were purported to really express their inherent qualities the best in. A planet in a house it “rejoices” in gives that planet a type of dignity. A lot of people know what essential dignity is: a planet in its domicile, for instance. (Mercury in Gemini -the sign it rules- would have essential dignity.) Planets can also have dignity if they are in a house of their jollies. These things did not come about by guesswork or accidents; there was good reason underlying the matchmaking or it wouldn’t have stuck around for long.

So, what houses do the traditional planets find “joy” in?

Real Time Astrology: October 2016

October is not without its rough patches, of course, but by and large the space weather this month allows everyone to cool their engines and breathe easy. Mercury retrograde is over, eclipse season is over, the Saturn-Neptune square still around but waning. Cardinal T-square ahead for November and December, but not tight enough this month to create major problems yet. Mars is in Capricorn, the sign of its exaltation. Jupiter now getting some mojo back being in Libra.

Real Time Astrology: New Moon in Gemini June 4th-5th, 2016

The frenetic and fun New Moon at 14 degrees Gemini takes place Saturday, June 4th at 10:00 PM CST  (depending on your time zone, it will be in the wee hours of Sunday, June 5th.) The Sun-Moon conjunction will also be in exact conjunction to Venus, also at 14 degrees Gemini, and forming a very tight mutable Grand Cross. The mutable Grand Cross includes the Gemini New Moon-Venus conjunction squaring Jupiter at 14 degrees Virgo and the North Node at 17 Virgo; squaring Neptune at 12 degrees Pisces, and opposing Saturn retrograde at 12 degrees Sagittarius.

As previously mentioned, Gemini (along with the other mutable signs) are bicorporeal or “double-bodied” signs, meaning they relate to concepts of duality and inhabiting different worlds simultaneously. While the cardinal signs initiate change, the mutable signs (which precede the cardinal signs) facilitate changes; the cardinal signs start new seasons (each one occurs at equinox) and the mutable signs prepare us for the changing season. As confusing as a mutable Grand Cross is, it is demanding we adapt to survive and move into the future.  [Read more…]

Real Time Astrology: November 2015

The astrology of the month of November starts with the magic of alchemy and ends with the need for separation of fact from fantasy. This month is a rapidly changing month but the changes are more subtle, more likely to sneak up on us rather than announce themselves.  [Read more…]

Real Time Astrology: New Moon in Taurus May 17, 2015

A mashup of heavy duty discipline and la dolce vita, the New Moon at 26 degrees Taurus takes place late Sunday evening May 17 at 11:13 P.M. CST. (Depending on your time zone, it will occur in the early morning hours of May 18.) The New Moon will sextile Chiron in Pisces and broadly aspect the weakening opposition between Mars in Gemini and Saturn retrograde in Sagittarius. The exalted New Moon in Taurus will also be in a beautiful mutual reception to Venus in Cancer, although they do not aspect each other.

The effect will run deep and be experienced in different ways. For some, it will be a calming of nerves and a pleasurable time. There is emotional stability with this Moon, although the Mars-Saturn opposition will keep the mood serious and sober. This Moon will be lacking the drama of the previous Moon cycles and will create a more natural flow. There are good times to be had here, most likely low key. Taurus is a sensual sign and the mutual reception to Venus in Cancer will reinforce the enjoyment of physical comfort. Music, food, dance, nature, sleep… whatever the good stuff in life is to you, grab on to some of it.

A Moon aspecting Mars and Saturn can be a source of depression for some. The Mars-Saturn opposition will be weakening, so any mental funk shouldn’t stick around for long or be anything you can’t navigate out of. Any bad moods will be a result of frustrations, a feeling of not being able to move forward as planned.

This New Moon in Taurus is a great time to set in motion changes to your physical world that will allow for better long term successes, however you define success. Taurus has considerable stamina and will see projects through to the end, and its aspects to Mars and Saturn will provide drive and discipline. Look at the areas of life that you feel you are “stuck” in and set intentions on moving forward or around these obstacles. Anything from stopping smoking to starting new business plans to moving house or changing something in the home.

Financial security will be a focus here and a change in materialistic attitudes and/or spending and saving practices may be necessary. Your values system may need a makeover, or you may need to stick to your guns in defending your values.

The tempo will be slower, steadier, even leisurely. Physical energy probably won’t be at its peak here; take it easy if you notice yourself feeling more tired than usual. Wearing off physical energy, if done right, can be a mental boost though and help clear the mind. Spending time in nature will do the same. Move your body!
