Real Time Astrology: Full Moon In Virgo March 12th, 2017

The Full Moon of Sunday, March 12th (9:54 AM CST) will fall at 22 degrees Virgo. A strange mash-up, this one. The opposition between the unfocused Sun and Mercury in Pisces to the focused and industrious Virgo Full Moon looks like an effort to bring order out of chaos, something particularly relevant as the first lunation after two potent eclipses that mopped the floor with many of us (myself included). Man, what chaos. We’re still in Pisces season, still reeling from that doozy of a Pisces eclipse, still trying to summon the emotional energy to get going again. The Virgo Full Moon, while trying to set things right again through emotional control and rationale, still has to contend with a fair amount of chaos. This isn’t necessarily a tough Full Moon but it can be a headache for some. [Read more…]

Stop What You’re Doing Immediately And Find Where Freddie Mercury Is In Your Chart!

Freddie Mercury astrology asteroid

Good old fashioned lover boy.

Just when Mercury retrograde was starting to get me down, the real star powered Mercury made everything right again!

There’s been a dizzying amount of astronomical discoveries so far in 2016 (the non-discovery of Planet 9 or Planet X or whatever notwithstanding) that I’ve been meaning to write about but haven’t got around to yet (with Mercury retrograde, I’ve been doing battle with people plagiarizing my writing, for real). But today, September 5th, 2016, the most important moment in astrology and astronomy history (maybe ever) was announced. Today, to commemorate what would’ve been Freddie Mercury’s 70th birthday, asteroid #17473 was renamed Freddiemercury. Asteroid #17473 was discovered in 1991, the same year Mercury left this world, providing proof he really was from another dimension. As I’ve written about before, any celestial body worth its salt will have a synchronistic connection and backstory to its name; the synch of Freddiemercury is all the proof I need that this virtuoso cosmic body should be used in every astrology reading henceforth!

No, seriously, find Freddiemercury in your chart. Now. Go to https://astro.com and put in your birth data to make a free chart. Once you’ve saved it, at the top of the screen click “Free Horoscopes” and click on “Extended Chart Selection”. Once there, scroll to the bottom of the screen. You’ll see an empty bar that allows you to enter asteroid numbers. Put in 17473 and click “Click Here To Show The Chart”. Boom! You now know where Freddie Mercury lives on in each of us!

Since it’s Mercury’s birthday today, let’s have a look at his chart:

Freddie Mercury asteroid astrology

(You’ll notice he had his own namesake asteroid Freddiemercury in very tight conjunction to his planet Mercury. Tee hee.)

No surprise he was a Leo rising, is it? Sun in the 1st house, beautifully artistic Sagittarius Moon in the 5th, Venus raunchy in the via combusta. Jupiter in Libra. And, like many celebrities, he was a 12th house person as well; for him it was Pluto and Saturn behind the scenes. Underneath the flashy exterior, a world of pain and dreams and beauty and lonesome yearning for something this world never offers. Saturn in hard aspect to Jupiter lead to his overbite caused from having four extra teeth, which he wouldn’t remove because he believed it created the beautiful sound of his voice, and who’d ever want to lose this:

The piano playing, though? That’s all Mercury (no pun intended). Venus and Leo and the 5th house and Jupiter in Libra, etc.: these are things in astrology that show creative artistic appreciation and potential but the manual dexterity performers run on is, more often than not, their Mercury and/or Mars. (Which is why I’m currently writing about a musician and not playing music myself…) Freddie Mercury was a Virgo and Virgo runs on proper skills. Those people who go on and on about what a flamboyant “showman” he was are doing his memory a disservice; he was a proper songwriter, producer, and multi-instrument musician as much as, or more, than anything else. He did it so well he made it look easy.

So, happy birthday Freddie Mercury and thank you for even glamming up something like astrology.

Real Time Astrology: New Moon Solar Eclipse in Virgo September 1st, 2016

The New Moon Solar Eclipse at 9 degrees Virgo takes place on Thursday, September 1st, 4:03 AM Central Standard Time. It is an annular solar eclipse, meaning it will create the visible coronal ring (“ring of fire”) most people associate with eclipses. The closer an eclipse is to the Moon’s Nodes, the stronger; with the North Node at 12 degrees Virgo this does set us up for a powerful and intense eclipse! The Sun, New Moon and North Node all in Virgo will be joined by Mercury retrograde in exact conjunction to Jupiter at 28 degrees Virgo. That’s quite the five star stellium! The Virgo New Moon/Solar Eclipse/stellium will also form a formidable mutable T-square by squaring Mars at 14 degrees Sagittarius and Saturn at 10 Sagittarius, and opposing Neptune retrograde at 10 degrees Pisces.

The orbs are tight for this one; no room for anything but a major event. The depth, power and complexity of everything that’s going into this eclipse gives me a sense of a “perfect storm”, in that it will probably be easier to assess the aftermath than it will be trying to understand it as it unfolds.

Real Time Astrology: Full Moon (Maybe Lunar Eclipse) In Aquarius August 18th, 2016

The startling electric Full Moon at 25 degrees Aquarius peaks on Thursday, August 18th at 4:27 AM CST. There is a bit of debate over this one, with some calling it a penumbral lunar eclipse and others saying it is just shy of meeting eclipse criteria. Either way, it’s going to be buzzing! Besides the obvious opposition to the Sun at 25 degrees Leo, the Aquarius Full Moon and maybe penumbral lunar eclipse will tightly sextile Uranus retrograde at 24 degrees Aries, as well as form a tight inconjunct (sometimes called quincunx) to Mercury conjunct Jupiter in Virgo  (23 and 25 degrees, respectively).

Aquarius is the sign of the weird and quirky, being ruled by unorthodox Uranus. Uranus in the martial sign of Aries is the freedom fighter, asserting individual rights and pushing pack against tyranny, conformity, homogenization and globalization. With Uranus retrograde, the fight for our right to fly our freak flags has become an inner, introverted focus rather than something we project to the world. The lunar cycle sensitizes us at the personal, intimate level to the bigger workings of the world at large and the Full Moon in Aquarius sextile (easy, flowing aspect) to Uranus Rx in Aries is a time of flying our freak flags proudly.

As this Full Moon/maybe lunar eclipse is bursting with intensity and energy of Aquarius and Uranus, it’s going to be highlighting issues we’re faced with as people living during the transition from the Age of Pisces to the Age of Aquarius. So, it’s as good a time as any to review what the Age of Aquarius is, what its higher potentials and dark shadow sides are.

Real Time Astrology: August 2016

The summer drags on. There’s a sense of relief as some of the harsh space weather temporarily eases up, but also fatigue from the battle to keep it together. August’s astrological forecast isn’t the easiest thing but it isn’t the worst. It’s better at the beginning than at the end; soak up the Sun of Leo season and restore your courage under the Leo New Moon on August 2nd in preparation for the turbulence.

The first time the host country will actually be experiencing a winter during the summer games (due to being south of the equator).
